Reinhoud Posted July 3, 2023 Posted July 3, 2023 I'm busy rebuilding my GS1000, I've got a rear wheel of a GSXR1000 K8, 6'' - So the front sprocket needs to come out another 5mm. Now I was wondering, how far can I go out before I start ruining stuff/bearings? Thanks Quote
TonyGee Posted July 3, 2023 Posted July 3, 2023 I can't see an extra 5mm making any difference to the bearings !!!! but have you got enough room at the frame pivot area ? Quote
jb Posted July 3, 2023 Posted July 3, 2023 I’ll double check on mine when I get home but I think it’s around 3/8” before the chain starts hitting the frame…..I’ve also had to use a non o-ring 530 chain (slimmer than the standard o-ring type). 1 Quote
Reinhoud Posted July 3, 2023 Author Posted July 3, 2023 I have to be creative with the frame. I already have a plan I was busy aligning the chain, and I noticed it has to come out a bit, almost at the end of the shaft Quote

Looks a bit better, apparently every centimeter counts 1 Quote
coombehouse Posted July 4, 2023 Posted July 4, 2023 If you measure everything, I don't believe there is enough room to run a 6 inch rim on centre without doing something to the frame in the pivot area to gain clearance. 1 Quote
Dezza Posted July 4, 2023 Posted July 4, 2023 A 170 tyre will also go on a 5.5 rim, which will make things easier. 1 Quote
Bav Posted July 4, 2023 Posted July 4, 2023 I am probably wrong on this, but thought I would add it just in case, but years ago I had an EFE and used (I think?) a Gpz750 front sprocket, which was offset from the factory. But a hefty 630 fitting. I am sure that I heard/read somewhere that some Kwaks have offset front sprockets? ZZR1100?? I don't know enough about the pitch sizes but could an offset (Gpz750) sprocket be machined down to a more user friendly 530? I admit that I am stupid in not knowing the sizes of the chain pitch. If my 5 year old grandson was here he would no doubt be able to tell me. Quote
Captain Chaos Posted July 4, 2023 Posted July 4, 2023 630 means 6/8" pitch, 3/8" width. 530 means 5/8" pitch and 3/8" wide. 525 is 2,5/8" wide. 520 is 2/8" wide. etc. So a 530 sprocket can be machined down to 525 or 520, but a 630 sprocket can not be machined down to 530. 1 Quote
Reinhoud Posted July 5, 2023 Author Posted July 5, 2023 (edited) It's a GSXR1000 wheel. All done, I didn't do it properly yesterday. Yesterday I pushed te sprocket by hand against the spacer. Today I put the nut on and tighten it properly, that made 5mm difference. Sprocket doesn't come out as far anymore. Frame is modified to allow for the chain. Edited July 5, 2023 by Reinhoud 3 Quote
Dezza Posted July 5, 2023 Posted July 5, 2023 ZZR 1100 sprockets have different splines to Suzuki air and oil cooled bikes (which have the same splines). Obviously, this is a very poor show and incredibly inconsiderate of Kawasaki It's the later Kawas (e.g. ZX6R) that have the same splines as Suzukis although none have dished sprockets like the ZZR1100. Some do have a sort of offset sprocket but the splined bit is really thick. Quote
