Joseph Posted December 7, 2020 Posted December 7, 2020 (edited) Hey Does anyone know of a straightforward supplier who can produce custom sprockets without making 500 ? The situation is : - 1980 GSX 1100 - sling engine - slab fork and wheels problem is, since the gearing of the sling box and slab box are not the same, the baselines of the OE sprocket kit are not identical, and the PCD of the sprocket carrier not being the same, means - i can't fit a sling sprocket on the slab carrier - i can't find off the shelf a slab 51 tooth sprocket for the slab carrier Unless there is another carrier i could use but i doubt it i think the slab one is quite specific Edited December 7, 2020 by Joseph Quote
Dezza Posted December 7, 2020 Posted December 7, 2020 If you do not need an offset sprocket then sprocket blanks are freely available and these can then be drilled/machined to fit your carrier. If you need an offset rear sprocket, then Talon will make these although they take ages to do so and they are not cheap. I had one done about 10 years ago and it was 75 quid then. 1 Quote
slayer61 Posted December 7, 2020 Posted December 7, 2020 I have used Sprocket Specialists several times in the past & can recommend them https://sprocketspecialists.com/ 1 Quote
wraith Posted December 7, 2020 Posted December 7, 2020 If you can use a gsx1100f sprocket carrier, you can get off the shelf 52T rear sprockets Quote
Joseph Posted December 7, 2020 Author Posted December 7, 2020 Hi. Didn't know that. But checking the microfiches the F has 6 cush rubbers and the R has 5 so the carriers can't be interchangeable Quote
wraith Posted December 7, 2020 Posted December 7, 2020 If it's the gsxr1100 ghj rear you have? Should have a jt830 rear sprocket so same as bandit 600/400 etc etc Have a look on JT sprockets site, it's a good site to compare sprocket types. Quote
Joseph Posted December 7, 2020 Author Posted December 7, 2020 Ah didn't know that one it's better to use than the french one i go to usually Didn't know the small bandits had the same pcd but that said the biggest available is 48 teeth. Looks like there won't be any off the shelf options unfortunately Had i kept 17 inch tyres i would be fine, but Quote
Joseph Posted December 8, 2020 Author Posted December 8, 2020 Well supersprox has them up to 53 teeth with a 3 week wait. It's the alloy hub riveted steel tooth ring version and indeed 75€ seems to be a recurrent price. Although this not being a plain steel sprocket might make it more "reasonable" Quote
dupersunc Posted December 8, 2020 Posted December 8, 2020 (edited) I'm struggling with what your issue is. Slingshot and slabbie 750 have the same gear ratios in the box. Slabbies and j/k sling shots have the same sprocket fitment, L/M slinhshots have a different sprocket fitment but again the internal gearing is the same. 1100 slabbies and 1100k also had same sprocker fitment, but different gearing. you can get 14/15/16t front sprockets from virtually anywhere, and 43-45-48 rear sprokets were all factory fit to various models in your bolt pattern on the rear. Why do you need custom sprockets? Edited December 8, 2020 by dupersunc 1 Quote
Joseph Posted December 8, 2020 Author Posted December 8, 2020 Because it's a '91 1100R engine due to run with a 150/70/18 tyre Quote
jameskat Posted December 8, 2020 Posted December 8, 2020 Hi there, as dupersunc said why not run a smaller front sprocket, 14 with a 48 gives almost the same top speed according to the gearing calculator. Quote
Joseph Posted December 8, 2020 Author Posted December 8, 2020 Will a smaller sprocket clear the swingarm movement ? I'd rather be sure of clearance, i'm thinking the gearbox sprocket position compared to the frame and swingarm pivot etc could cause some issue Quote

dupersunc Posted December 8, 2020 Posted December 8, 2020 Hey I'm trying to help here buddy. It's not a trick. Quote
Joseph Posted December 9, 2020 Author Posted December 9, 2020 Yep if course A G or H sprocket is indeed what i need, but with 51 or 52 teeth, so a custom is required, hence my initial question, but i have found that Supersprox has the option ready in their catalog. Thanks Quote
