Katanafighter69 Posted October 14, 2015 Posted October 14, 2015 looking for help. could somebody post pictures of how and where to brace a katana frame. also considering cut out for chain clearance. im powder coating mine soon and any advice would be greatly appreciated.thanks in advance. Quote
johnr Posted October 14, 2015 Posted October 14, 2015 Ive some pics of my luckyseven kat frame somewhere, i will go look for them. Quote
johnr Posted October 14, 2015 Posted October 14, 2015 how much detail do you want? steve at luckyseven is in the process of making these frame brace kits like fitted to this frame and selling them on to owners, you just need to weld them to your frame. might be worth contacting him before you start. 1 Quote
Gammaboy Posted October 15, 2015 Posted October 15, 2015 (edited) This is the traditional drawing, but I added a couple of extra tubes at G (Works better on the early frames that don't have the big engine mount brackets like in the picture). Also, I ran the tubes at A towards the fairing side mounts instead of into the middle of the yellow tube. Edited October 15, 2015 by Gammaboy Quote

KATANAMANGLER Posted October 15, 2015 Posted October 15, 2015 Cheers John Steve and I are already quite far down the road now. He's going to fine it a bash Quote
Katanafighter69 Posted October 15, 2015 Author Posted October 15, 2015 thanks for all your help and pictures guys. more to this than i first thaught. maybe a pre made kit would be a good start. Quote
Pedda Posted October 15, 2015 Posted October 15, 2015 (edited) In this context it might be interesting what the professional racers do.Here's a pic of Steve Martin's Kat frame he uses in the Aussie Classic race series. Completely new fabrication, still instructional. Edited October 15, 2015 by Pedda 5 Quote
markfoggy Posted October 15, 2015 Posted October 15, 2015 With respect to the lunacy that S Martin et al are involved in, you can get away with a little less.Again new build and about 30HP less than the Phillip Island bikes, but more than capable of seeing off most things of the generation. Liking the Luckyseven work though, well thought out. Quote
Gammaboy Posted October 15, 2015 Posted October 15, 2015 Yeah, i think you've got a little bit of tube diameter, and a much better head stock area over a GSX/Kat frame though. Quote
IceKat Posted October 31, 2015 Posted October 31, 2015 A most interesting thread this one, i am currently gathering parts to build a 7/11 Kat . Just added some more nice parts to the heap today Looking around on the net the amount and placing of some of the bracing seems universal. Other chassis areas more regional, fashion perhaps johnr question for you sir, in your photo the underseat tray you have made how deep is that and is it hidden from side view with the seat in place.Katmangler your frame side brace is that just a flat plate or boxed like johnr`s ? Pedda do we have link to that race bike ? Thanks Quote

Our GSX frame bracing Guru Stragewayz should hopefully have completed a detailed how to for us. ( he did the Lucky 7 frame too)The undertray in JohnR's picture is a Lucky7 prefab too they come in two parts. Quote
Pedda Posted October 31, 2015 Posted October 31, 2015 Pedda do we have link to that race bike ? Didn't save a proper link but I think there's some pics on the Katana Superbikes fb site:https://www.facebook.com/katana.superbikes/photos_stream?tab=photos_stream 1 Quote
BigLT Posted October 31, 2015 Posted October 31, 2015 Love that under tray. I have the aluminium to build my own, but might save myself a few hours and look up these ones Quote
BigLT Posted October 31, 2015 Posted October 31, 2015 Have Lucky 7 shut down? I went on what I think is their website and its empty. If not, who's selling their stuff? Quote
IceKat Posted October 31, 2015 Posted October 31, 2015 BigLT i have just followed the company name on the undertray and found them not much for sale as in nothing. But plenty all be it old posts on their Blog including Kool kats Quote
