Blue Posted March 31, 2020 Posted March 31, 2020 Anyone painted some? Have I masked off enough? Quote
CockneyRick Posted March 31, 2020 Posted March 31, 2020 Yes & unless it's fully oil & heat resistant, they'll go manky fairly quick Quote
CockneyRick Posted March 31, 2020 Posted March 31, 2020 I did think this myself, but being where thay are, it may not last too long. Worth a try though, worst case it peels off & you end up with metal as it started out. Quote
CockneyRick Posted April 1, 2020 Posted April 1, 2020 I like that, although the end finish may make em look great or awful? Quote
Swiss Toni Posted April 1, 2020 Posted April 1, 2020 (edited) I'd stick with thin coats of paint. as we all know, they're a bastard to seal properly at the best of times! I think powder coat may interfere with the seating of the o rings. Edited April 1, 2020 by Swiss Toni 1 Quote
Oilyspanner Posted April 1, 2020 Posted April 1, 2020 You can Zinc plate pretty easily at home, have done a few bits recently - plenty of 'how to' videos on youtube, zinc heals chips in itself too......wish I'd been doing coatings when I had my engine apart, I rust treat my tubes, under coated and did a top coat on mine - still look good. 1 Quote
zedhead Posted April 1, 2020 Posted April 1, 2020 I had a pair of 750 ones chromed a few years ago, but they never got fitted to an engine, and I don't know where they are now anyway... #lostintheshed 1 Quote
clivegto Posted April 1, 2020 Posted April 1, 2020 I also have chrome one's fitted to one of my engines. Not had any problems fitting the O rings with powder coat. Have also painted them in the past it just don't last well. 1 Quote
Dezza Posted April 1, 2020 Posted April 1, 2020 Chroming is now so expensive it may be cheaper to just buy new ones, unless it's the bling that's important. Zinc plating kits aren't that expensive and then you have all the gear for all the other manky steel parts that collectively cost a fortune to replace with new OEM bits Quote
