baldrick Posted September 23, 2019 Posted September 23, 2019 hello, looking for gsxr 1100m wheel bearings bearings. Being a bit dense, I threw away the old ones, and my wheels are still at the coaters, but have got the sizes off the tinterweb- 20x47x14. Question is are the 6204 bearings the ones I want? Anybody know? please ? Quote
Askamaskinservice Posted September 23, 2019 Posted September 23, 2019 Yes, 6204 2RS (2RS means it has rubberseal on both sides) Quote
Macduff Posted September 24, 2019 Posted September 24, 2019 The other bearing spec number you need is C3. I believe this is the bearings tolerance/clearance spec. if too tight then it wont like being spun at the RPM speeds a wheel rotates at and could overheat. Or at least that's what I do for wheel bearings (ie im not a bearing engineer) Quote
Askamaskinservice Posted September 24, 2019 Posted September 24, 2019 C3 is a bit lose in tolerances, usual applications is enginebearings +100 degrees. "Standard" 6204 withstands continously 13500rpm and 1310kg of dynamic load.(each) 1 Quote
CockneyRick Posted September 24, 2019 Posted September 24, 2019 (edited) 62042RS is fine. Suzuki only rubber or metal sealed the outer face as a cost saving, so double seal is even better https://simplybearings.co.uk/shop/p170085/62042RS-Budget-Rubber-Sealed-Deep-Groove-Ball-Bearing-20x47x14mm/product_info.html Edited September 24, 2019 by CockneyRick 1 Quote

Askamaskinservice Posted September 24, 2019 Posted September 24, 2019 Mmmmm fooood. " I usually get the single seal and pack them with grease before installing them. " At a guess they are "cheap". Cheap is fine, cheap gives you the opportunity to buy more cool stuff to bike. Yes they will work, no doubt about that, i was only explaining what C3 stands for, there are also C5 but we won't go there. //Hasse. Quote

Standard 62042RS are good up to about 2400km/h (180/60X17) (Max 20000rpm) And the P63 can handle almost 2690km/h. (Max 22100rpm) For me the standard bearing is good enough. Edited September 24, 2019 by Askamaskinservice Added info. can't calculate..... 1 Quote

I think you may be right I was the engineering manager in a pie and sausage factory for 10 years we used to buy hundreds of bearing a week due to the night hygiene crew using pressure washers on conveyors belts............. Cheap is good.............. 1 Quote
Fazz711 Posted September 24, 2019 Posted September 24, 2019 Rs bearings have extra clearance as std than non sealed bearings. If you take the rubber seals out you end up with a bearing with equivalent to a c3 spec bearing. Always used the best quality RS c3 bearings I could libarate from work on wheels Quote
baldrick Posted September 24, 2019 Author Posted September 24, 2019 I ordered them anyway got a hold of the ones that came out and they were only sealed on one side and packed with grease on the other side. I bought decent ones, I don't like skimping on stuff like bearings, its not worth it. I opted for SKF, only for my brother (who is an actual design engineer), told me (after id ordered them obviously) that they make them all over the world these days and the quality varies- a lot. Lets hope mine were made in Germany, not Indonesia ha ha . FAG are better apparently, oh well, live and learn. 1 Quote
Askamaskinservice Posted September 24, 2019 Posted September 24, 2019 SKF the Swedish brand are obviously better. 1 Quote
baldrick Posted September 24, 2019 Author Posted September 24, 2019 they might be a Swedish brand, but they manufacture their bearings all over the world, some good, some not so good apparently 3 Quote

bluedog59 Posted September 24, 2019 Posted September 24, 2019 Irrespective of what standard of bearing you fit, do it properly. Including putting the bearings in a freezer bag in the freezer for a bit and warming the bearing housing in the wheel. Quote
baldrick Posted September 25, 2019 Author Posted September 25, 2019 Bearings arrived today- SKF bearings. head bearings- made in India- you know, that country well known for engineering brilliance. Wheel bearings- made in Bulgaria, the other well known engineering heartland - doh FAG from now on. live and learn Quote
fatblokeonbandit Posted September 25, 2019 Posted September 25, 2019 (edited) MMmm hang on shipmate from left to right SKF Italy FAG hungary Codex Slovenia NSK Japan Koyo Japan Edited September 25, 2019 by fatblokeonbandit 2 Quote
CockneyRick Posted September 25, 2019 Posted September 25, 2019 To RS or not due to cost? Can't understand that, it's 20p FFS! And KOYO all the way, although most bearings are made everywhere & are absolutely fine if it's a brand name Quote

Well they do have a Space programme and do build the hardware themselves unlike us who borrow someone else's rockets LOL! Quote
baldrick Posted September 25, 2019 Author Posted September 25, 2019 (edited) unlikely to be space rocket engineers working in a bearing factory tho isn't it? Edited September 25, 2019 by baldrick 1 Quote
Fazz711 Posted September 26, 2019 Posted September 26, 2019 Only truly bad bearings I have come across are Romania rollaway. Avoid like the plague. Had two sets of brass cage roller bearings fail in less than ten minutes. On an electric motor on light run test. 1 Quote
baldrick Posted September 26, 2019 Author Posted September 26, 2019 FAGs arrived today, made in Portugal Quote
