  1. I have an ultrasonic cleaner and have run dozens of carbs through it without any problems. The basket the items sit in should have rubber feet so the components themselves are not actually shaken, just the cleaning fluid. The only other way to damage things is by using an unsuitable cleaning agent.
  2. I know what you mean about a challenge, turn a pig's ear into a decent setup with some lateral thinking and clever engineering. If you're going to do it, go "full on", adjustable mount, everything top notch. Just to raise the bench mark for his project.
  3. I'd steer clear of it. Unless you can replicate the stock VFR setup it will probably handle like a three legged cow in a sand pit, then it will hit the stupid exhausts (which probably screw the engine up as well ). Even with the best efforts you'll end up with an asthmatic camel with a dodgy back leg.
  4. That's actually not a bad price.
  5. It does. It changes because you are taking a reading from the gearbox sprocket but have changed the ratio between it and the rear wheel.
  6. Or you could mount it ( or 2 smaller ones ) somewhere else. Oil coolers don't have to go in front of the engine, just somewhere where they get a decent airflow.
  7. True. They do look similar from behind.
  8. Get the forks sorted, re-valve, springs, fit a good aftermarket shock, lighter wheels etc but keep it looking stock(ish), fit a rack, maybe even bungee a sandwich box on it, wear a dayglo belt. Then, Tune the f**k out of it, bore kit, cams, head job, big flatslides and have fun scaring the sh*t out of sports bikes.
  9. My clutch pushrod snapped. Noticed the clutch lever was having less and less effect on a long ride home then, nothing. The last 20 miles home was, erm, interesting.
  10. I was going off his description as I can't hear anything in the video. I would still give those bearing a check, it's a B12 so it's probably been wheelied a few times. I've had the one behind the clutch go before.
  11. I can't hear anything but from your description I would have a check of the gearbox output shaft bearing and possibly the one behind the clutch.
  12. Sorry to correct you Dezza but it's DR650 (96 onwards) and it also fits the XF650 Freewind.
  13. I did it many years ago by welding the trigger to the sprocket nut. I can't remember if I used the original nut or not and I think there may have been a little bit of lathe work on the trigger so you could still fit a socket onto the nut but it can be done.
  14. Sorted then. All's well when it ends with a smile.
  15. Has your grinder still got the safety guard it came fitted with ?
  16. Could be you've got a little air leak somewhere.
  17. May I refer you to a previous post M'Lud. Heresy I tell you !!
  18. Unfortunately I feel you may be correct but surely it must be a heresy and against the Geneva Convention to paint AP Racing calipers any other colour other than the factory original ? The offending party should be banished to the ends of the earth ( or Milton Keynes) whichever is nearest). This is OSS, not "Built" magazine.
  19. There's always one philistine.
  20. Would you change the colour of a pair of Ohlins forks ? Would your paint a pair of AP Lockheed calipers ? The spring is the colour it is because it is what is. The trademark colour of a quality piece of kit.
  21. People overlook how important "feel" is. The best set up in the book is little use if it feels like you're squeezing a brick.
