Not doing his lap time any good though.
-
The only Aussie I can think of who fits the bill is, Garry McCoy.
-
Ha,ha, love it. You can buy all the bhp you want but you can't buy talent.
-
Do it, do it, do it !!! I've ridden with an ex GP rider and the stuff you pick up without even realising it is amazing. Don't worry about what he will think of your riding. One thing I have found is that people who really can do are always open to passing on their knowledge, those that just think they're good get cagey and reluctant.
-
All I can say to that is, from my experience working at a race school, they were very good. I gather from your comment that some places sadly may not have the same standards. On the other hand, following somebody who actually knows their way round can't be a bad thing.
-
That's a fair point. The speed ( or lack of ) is not the actual problem, it's when they are erratic and unpredictable that they become a danger to themselves and others. There are instructors available at trackdays and there is no shame whatsoever in getting one of them to show you round for a few laps.
-
Maybe you should think about moving up a group. Most of them couldn't hit a cow's arse with a banjo never mind a line or an apex.
-
The problem with modern sportsbikes is they so far ahead of 99% of their riders that it's very easy to get a long way into a dangerous situation without realising it and no amount of ABS, traction control or whatever is going to save you at that point. Then again, most of them have got no idea anyway. They come flying past on the straight, brake waaaaay too early then potter round the corner on a crap line while hanging off like a demented chimp and thinking they could beat that Valentino Marquez bloke.

Sorry, I thought it was obvious that I was referring to the squish band area of the piston crown. A case of knowing what I meant but not wording it clearly.
-
Ah, big bore kit upping the compression ratio then a bit of oil being drawn in raising it a bit more (oil being non compressible) and bingo, detonation !
-
I think that's very unlikely. When the squish band is working correctly there is usually very little colour on the piston crown (as there's minimal mixture there to burn). Ignition timing ? Is there any sign of damage on the corresponding piston in the crank throw ? The one which is 180deg to the damaged one. Hot spot to promote a bit of detonation ? It is right next to the exhaust valves. I would have a look at your squish clearance across the cylinders. Is it a stock engine or has it had some work done ?
-
It looks like it has started to have a nibble at edge of the crown and I would guess that it's just started on it's way down to the rings. Do the other cylinders show any damage in the same area or do they have a slight (normal) carbon build up ?
-
Could be a bit of detonation, anything on the piston crown ?
-
It looks like it's got some form of prop to hold the tank/seat up for "show purposes" so people can marvel over the shiny shit underneath. If you can't ride it on the road/track/ in competition it's a useless ornament.

What angle did you have the carbs at when you set them ? On my FCR39mx the carb has to be angled so the float tab is just touching, but not compressing, the sprung plunger on the float valve. Your carbs are slightly different but of the same "family" so it could be worth checking what the official method is for them.
-
Driving into the back of a stationary vehicle is "without due care and attention" anyway. I don't think they need to prove what caused the lack of.
-
He'll probably claim you reversed into him. Glad you're ok.
-
+1. If you're trying to run a 33mm carb on a 100cc cylinder you're going to need every bit of help you can get and those "filters" will only make things worse. I think the root problem is a lack of gas speed through the carbs at low rpm leading to very little depression over the jets making it difficult for the engine to lift enough fuel.
-
Just out of interest, have you set the float heights and by what method ? I've just done the FCR on my DR650 properly and it does make a difference.
-
May I remind you that the 50cc "Katana" scooter was a "UK bike"
-
+1. Stock engine, decent full system, upgrade the wheels/brakes/suspension and add lightness. Now you can go out and annoy lots of Power Ranger sportsbikes on what passes for roads in this country. Even better if it looks reasonably stock with a nice little rack on the back. I did try running a top box as well but it upset the handling.

I've seen it make a mess of stainless. -

Great minds etc etc. -

That exhaust will be quietly rotting away under that stuff, no matter what it's made of. -
If you've not got any usable carbs atm, why not convert to fuel injection ?
