  1. I've never had a bandit frame or bike so can't say what the weight difference is but looking at what I have a pics of bandit frames, I would think the gsxf frame would be a bit stiffer.

Like you say, it would be interesting to know ;)

And everybody has a bandit xD

I remember when the 600 teapot first came out and it was supposed to be in the same category as the cbr600 fzr600 etc so must have something about them?

  3. Put both on big bragging points at the pub xD

The miss has both on her gsxr1100 and it's always fun watching people looking at it and there jaw drop when they see a woman get on the bike and ride off :D

  4. The ones that just go from one cam to the other are just really bling, if you want more oil up around the cams you need to get one of the kits that take off from the bottom oil way (under ATU cover) and goes up to the cams, or one that picks up off the side bolt on the cam cover.

Some will say the cam to cam links do give a bit more oil around the cams but I can't say for 100% on that.

you can always tell a bandit engine by its valve rattle :D

Now that is very true ;)

My gsx1100f motor sounds sweet and the miss gsxr1100k sounds sweet the et with the b12 motor sounds like a bag of spanners xD

As I've got gsxr cams in it and if it wasn't the thought of burning valves I'd set the tappets the same as a gsxr, or should I ?

  6. Hi And welcome to OSS,

Bit late to your questions and as above lots can be done and lots of project builds on these bikes in the project section (katana is a very similar frame, so have a look at them as well).

As @TonyGeesays, if you have another project on the go and want the bike for summer, I'd ride the bike as is this year have a good look around, ask all the questions you want/need even the daft ones, we will always help.

the thing with these projects, is just a small thing like changing the wheels will lead to other bits and can and will take time up especially if you're learning as you go.

so get your car done, ride the bike, sort out where you want to go, get the bits then when the colder weather starts you can devote your time to the bike without a pushed time limit (y)

It's a few years since I converted mine to stick coils, but I seem to remember that the resistance on 98, 99 srad wasn't suitable.  The k1 to k4 R coils work out very close to 3 ohms when linked in series. There's other makes with the correct resistance coils, Triumph daytona 600 and 650, Kawasaki zx6r...but I don't know which years.

If I fire up my old laptop I'm pretty sure I've got the diagram from practical sportsbikes.....which is what I used to do mine.

That would be helpful (y) I will have a look for some k1-k4 coils

Anybody used any other years? Just to keep the search open :D

As below mite be a good sticky post on this subject what we could add to as to what works and what doesn't ?

  8. Not going to highjack someone else thread, was thinking of this then not but now am, going to put some on the Hellcat (gsx1100f, b12 engine project) xD

So, will the 98 on ward coils work?

Has anybody got a wiring diagram as to how to wire them up?

This is all a bit new stuff for me xD

  9. Just doing the b12 engine, it's a MK1 b12 but I'm using a b12 MK2 harness. The MK2 has a 4 wire plug on it but the MK1 switch dose not.

So can I just cut the plug off the MK2 harness and just plug in the wires in from the MK1 switch?

  10. Technical anything will fit, all depends on how much work your happy to do?

I had a set of V&H off a gsxr750 on a old gs850 had to open the bolt holes up on the exhaust clamps and a bit of pulling the down pipes apart to get them to fit but they did go.

  11. If they are oily them come out of the inside of the engine, if they are clean/old road crud and oil they came from the outside xD

Sorry couldn't help myself, main ones are the M10 bolts for the crankcase Half's, the rest, if they fit (not to long/short) they will do.

I've built lots of engine's that I've not had the OEM bolts for.

  12. Welcome to OSS,

You will find Suzuki have a lot of parts that will swap, the gsxr forks and yokes will bolt straight in, just need to sort lock stops (if you're bothered about that lol) bandit will also work but the stems on the bottom yoke are longer so you would need to swap them.

The gsxr slabside forks are longer than the slingshot fork.

    B12 are 43mm diameter forks

    Gsxr slingshot are 43mm diameter

    Slabside are 41mm diameter

    (For the RWU forks)

B6 forks will also work but will be softer than the gsxr or b12 forks.

Start a build thread in the project section with lots of pictures, as we like pictures lol.

Ifi was you, as the bike has been studying for so long, I'd get it running before anything else as the carbs on the gsx550 can be a manger pain.
