  1. Hello mate. Nice to see you home again!
  2. You're off to a good start then! Keep the photo's coming.
  3. Cheers, John. Its still running the 998 barrels! They'll go back on when I build it. It also had slide carbs on when I got it, years ago which with, I've since found out, the 1000 Katana was fitted.
  4. @johnrBarrels are indeed stamped 998. Present cases (the ones that replaced the un-numbered cases) are GS110X. So, the crank and 493 rods may well be 1000/1100 Katana!
  5. Sorry, mate! Senior moment!
  6. @GammaboyPic as requested. Stator register in cover comes out at 35mm.
  7. Arnout. You're right about the cover taking a smaller generator winding! Other ones I have won't fit, due to PCD being different. Right again! More clues are pointing to this mystery motor being a 1000 Katana. I believe Katana rods are stronger than std. and bear a specific code? Another clue? Are there any more Kat only clues to determine its identity?
  8. It looks pretty much as shallow as yours, Si! I've tried a few 1100 covers on the cases, Clive. I know they swap over quite easily. But ... if I go for another case (not as shallow), I'll have to change rotor & stator (different mounting) = More money! And, what's the story with the 750 cover demolishing the 1100 motor?
  9. Your easiest way, may be to go with the 1100ET/Katana swinger. If you measure across the pivot point on your frame, someone on here with a loose 1100 frame/arm might let you know their dimms.
  10. Can anyone ID this cover? It came off 'that' 6 speed GSX motor.
  11. Should be a raised pad on the front of the barrels denoting cc.
  12. As Clive & YJ said, shift drum just off the detent plunger position, and selector forks just needed sliding across to suit. All gears selecting correctly! Thanks boys!
  13. Placed the shift drum in correct position. Detent plunger in neutral 'dimple' in shift drum. Forks still hitting gears. Fitted clusters into lower case yesterday, everything works and fits ok. Re-try on Monday! 65 yrs since I was a 'schoolboy' !
  14. Doing a 'dry build' on the 1100ET motor, just to see what's there, and what's ... not! All gears & g/change paraphernalia installed in upper & lower cases. Selector forks hanging down, as per manual but, forks not lining up with tracks on gears, stopping cases coming together! They're landing on the gears! Forks won't move sideways, due to slots in selector drum. Nowhere in any of my manuals, OEM Suzuki, Haynes or Clymer does it say gearbox has to be set in a certain way, or neutral. So, 'What's the problem?' Tell me how you do it!
  15. And it's on until Monday! Just spoke to Michelle.
  16. First picture is the selector drum pawl in the GSX1100 engine I'm currently putting together. You'll see it's got 4 teeth on the front part of the pawl. What do these mesh up with? Second picture, from 'Haynes Book of Lies' shows said pawl (from GSX1100EZ), with a rounded off nose, where there's teeth on mine. 'Why the difference'? Even the Microfische's show teeth on both sides!
  17. @DuckndiveHaven't got a scoobie! I've had it (the gearbox) for about 10 yrs. the girlfriends son had it (the bike) a month before he wrecked it. When the motor was put together, is anyone's guess!
  18. It's a great mod. I said years ago, it should be 'stickied'. I still think so! Thanks for taking the time to put it up again!
