  1. Bit of an ordeal, but you got there in the end!
  2. Hey! That's some great info there, Clive. Plenty to be getting on with!
  3. John. Knowing what the Katana case no's start with doesn't help me much, I'm afraid, Not knowing what the original cases were. No numbers! However, as has been said previously, the motor looks suspiciously like a Kat! If there's anyone on the site with a pair of empty, pukka Katana cases, maybe they could measure the width of both sets of bearing housings (outside to outside), and the diameters of the housings. As has been said previously, Katana cases are no different to GSX1100 cases, but that cluster does not fit GSX1100 cases! Nor GS750, nor 750 Slingshot, nor B6! I've tried! So. Until someone can take these measurements, to either confirm or deny, It's going to remain an enigma!
  4. Eng. sprkt: 15T Rear sprkt: 43T Chain: 108L Can't find pitch, Pich !
  5. Not a great deal of difference between ET & EX. Big lump of bike, and well worth having. I wouldn't worry too much about the missing airbox, they turn up occasionally. Buy it now, before he changes his mind, or someone else jumps in. Welcome to OSS!
  6. @DuckndiveI meant I'm not 100% sure if the gen. cover is Katana specific. You seem to be far more clued up on Aircooled Suzuki than me, so I'm inclined to take your advice and observations as pretty solid! As for the cases being anything other than stock, the mods must have been pretty suttle if they were! All side casings are std too. I had a bit of a 'lightbulb' moment today, thinking that if the six speed was a 'factory' mod, the position indicators on the sprocket cover might show six gear positions? No such luck! Shows only five. I wish I'd hung on to the cases now!
  7. It did! It was the only big Suzuki I had at the time. I didn't like the idea of 'no number' cases, so I stripped the motor, keeping hold of everything but the cases. Gearbox a 'no go' in the replacement cases. Interesting theory on it coming from a 1000 Kat. The bike was fitted with 1000/1100 Katana clocks, and I think the generator cover was Katana too? Smashed to bits, as PO fell off it! Correct me if I'm wrong? If I could find out which cases would take the six speed, 1000/1100 head & barrels, I'd put a motor together. Be cool having a six speed, Aircooled bruiser!
  8. Ah ... I see where me tank went then!
  9. Nice! Right colour too!
  10. @DuckndiveI think the issue here is, as much as the gearbox id question, is what are the crankcases then? Katana 1000 cases can't be that much different to run of the mill 1100 cases, which won't take the shafts! As for being CBR shafts, I can't see a gearbox from a different manufacturer fitting into a Suzuki case! Unlikely, but I'm not saying impossible!
  11. I know. I was thinking more along the lines of the 750 may have room across the cases to accommodate the longer 6 speed shafts. I'm a bit doubtful, as the 1100 cases won't take them. Be handy if there was someone on the forum with a stripped motor for measuring!
  12. I'm going for GS750 TSCC 16 valve, 1981 or later!
  13. Sorry to hear about the old ticker, Gaz! Time to recover, as Blubber says, is the main thing. There was a fork comparison chart on here somewhere. Some helpful chap(ess) might put up a link for you!
  14. I sold them to a drag racer on the old site, years ago. Bought 1100 cases from a lad on the old site, who ran a business for Malt Whisky. Yes, it's definitely the box from the last pics I put up. The only other 6 speed box I've had lying around, is now safely back in the Slabbie. ...... I think! ......................... I hope!!!!
  15. Hey Bud! Welcome to OSS. That bike is the business!!!
  16. Pictures show the GS(X) motor the gearbox came from. Fitted with 998cc barrels, 16 valve head, can't remember what the carb sizes were. So! The mystery continues! What interests me is, what the crankcases were, to be able to take 1000/1100 crank, head & barrels? GS1000 perhaps, or 16 valve GS750? Essentially, a six speed GSX, retro fitted. I never rode the bike. It was stripped as the frame was cattled!
  17. Something, I think, that wouldn't look out of place in 'Frankensteins Pages'.
  18. @Gixer1460Yes, twas an Aircooled! Well ... '83 GSX 550ES is also 6 speed, but stroke comes out @ 50.6mm. And 16 valve, as you'll see the donor motor was. GS 400 twin 6 speed, but stroke @ 56.6mmm. Picture to follow because, 'We like' ... I know, I know!
  19. Fitted to GSX1100 cases. Same problem. Cases not wide enough, two housings too big. I'm really starting to think smaller GS. But, would crank & barrels transplant? I know the crank is definitely 1100, as I've measured the stroke at 66mm, and small ends are 18mm. And, as an aside, how do I insert text between pictures, using iPhone? Answers on a postcard please (PM me)!
  20. This is the cluster fitted to '78 GS750EC cases. As you can see, the case isn't wide enough, and the housings for two of the bearings are far bigger. So, the original engine wasn't GS750! Well, I'm saying wasn't, as in 8 valve 750! The donor was 16 valve.
  21. This is getting really interesting! The motor came out of a supposedly 1150 EFE, but as soon as I clapped eyes on it, I knew it wasn't! It's frame number started DV, where EFE's should start GV (or the other way round)? No engine numbers either! It was even documented in the V5 as, 'Engine number: Not known'. Never seen that before! It was fitted with 998cc barrels. I forgot about 850's being shafties, so they're ruled out! The fact that it's a six speed ... how about any of the smaller GS's? Were they six speed? Would a twins gearbox even fit into a four? What about a 550 EFE? Same type of square section frame. What did their frame numbers start with? I'll dig the photo of the gearbox's original home out later on. By gum, 't things caused reet aggro!
  22. Strange. It came out of a Suzuki motor I stripped years ago. Unfortunately, I can't for the life of me remember what motor it was. But, it definitely was not 'Onda!
  23. Can anyone ID this gearbox? I know they all look the same, so I've put the selector drum in the frame too. It's a bit different to the 1100's I'm familiar with. I've a sneaking suspicion it's GS750/850?
