snoorder Posted July 22, 2015 Posted July 22, 2015 Built this Martin with GSX-1100 engine in the late 90s with a few friends. (It was owned by my friend back then). We bought the bike as a rolling frame and managed to get it approved and road legal. Quote
snoorder Posted July 22, 2015 Author Posted July 22, 2015 My friend rode it for a few years, dit some work and improvements on it untill he started making it worse ;-) Quote
snoorder Posted July 22, 2015 Author Posted July 22, 2015 Then he dicided not to ride it anymore at all and get himself a Beemer. So managed to buy the bike from him in order to "keep it in the family" and make it better. All excess parts were sold and 12 was sourced for the engine. The engine should be mildly tuned but we'll see about that later. Quote
snoorder Posted July 22, 2015 Author Posted July 22, 2015 (edited) Single sided tubular swingarm from a Ducati S4R monster is fitted. It will be a challenge to get the suspension right. The tank will probably be replaced int the future. Edited August 10, 2015 by snoorder 2 Quote
snoorder Posted July 22, 2015 Author Posted July 22, 2015 Front end upgraded with big cnc yokes and Kawasaki radial forks. 2 Quote
snoorder Posted July 22, 2015 Author Posted July 22, 2015 And this is how it has been sitting for quite a while now. Unfortunately I didn't have time to continue this build due to other projects (classic car restoration, Kawa Z1000/Suzuki hybrid). But hopefully in the next few years she'll be on the road again. vizman Posted July 22, 2015 Posted July 22, 2015 heading in the right direction though....well kool....don't ruin it. Quote
R1guy Posted August 7, 2015 Posted August 7, 2015 Good luck with the build, good looking project to get stuck into Quote
Buddy Posted August 7, 2015 Posted August 7, 2015 Gonna be really nice when done, swinger looks just right Quote
snoorder Posted August 10, 2015 Author Posted August 10, 2015 Thanks guys, good motovation to do some work again. As I said it will take time but it will be finished some day. The first challenge will be to sort the rear suspension. The original Ducati linkage is not the way to go as there is no possibility to mount this to the frame without ruining it. So it should probably be something as shown below with use of the original top mount and heavy modification of the swingarm: 1 Quote
snoorder Posted August 10, 2015 Author Posted August 10, 2015 In my opinion a very nice bike by the way: 2 Quote
busa ash Posted August 12, 2015 Posted August 12, 2015 looking like you will have a great build when time allows 1 Quote
Blubber Posted August 13, 2015 Posted August 13, 2015 In my opinion a very nice bike by the way:Nice bike indeed. And the exhaust is smart too. Quote
grebo Posted November 19, 2015 Posted November 19, 2015 Great to see another one, same frame ,Vfr arm, same conclusionShock mount comes in the middle of frame. too much fabrication for top mount .Lower brackets would also be a pain Quote
snoorder Posted November 19, 2015 Author Posted November 19, 2015 Looks similar but also different. Seems your top shock mount is differtent. You also have an alternative solution for the engine mounts. On the other hand, we are having the same problem with installing the shock ;-) That's why I will be using the direct shock without any linkages as shown in the example above. grebo Posted November 19, 2015 Posted November 19, 2015 The engine was only slung in add hock to give the weight to get the ride height.they are only a couple of straps to get the lump off groundI did not have any reference so made every thing adjustable to get it to work. These were the lower straps for shock mount . just bits slung together to get size and position Quote
grebo Posted November 19, 2015 Posted November 19, 2015 this is the position they ended up in to get suspension to work Quote
Robinjo Posted November 19, 2015 Posted November 19, 2015 Ah good to see the old Martin again, we need more of them on the road! I used a CBR600RR swingarm because there is no top mount needed, just a bottom one. Quote
snoorder Posted November 20, 2015 Author Posted November 20, 2015 Too bad they don't have a single sided version of that... Quote
grebo Posted December 6, 2015 Posted December 6, 2015 Just looking on Harris owners group on social media and found that a company called MOKO did a conversion kit for a 916 arm in to aHarris Mag 2 frame . simple enough just plates and spacers.Don't know what the monster arm is like but if its got a gap between the swingarm mounting lugs ,it would work for you.
