clivegto Posted July 29, 2021 Posted July 29, 2021 Well the Turbo Magnum fired up straight away this evening. I did do a little video of it but it's too big to upload. 3 Quote
clivegto Posted August 7, 2021 Posted August 7, 2021 When I had the Turbo Magnum running I popped it in 1st gear on the paddock stand it stuck & wouldn't select any thing ells . So rather than stripping the hole bike down as easiest way is to remove front & back ends then lift frame of the engine. Magnum 2 frames have no frame cradle so the bottom end of the engine can in theory be removed. I winched the hole bike up (in what we call the old bullock shed) by the front wheel then winched the back wheel up to turn the entire bike upside down. Whipped the bottom crankcase of and checked the supper finished gearbox over. Main problem appeared to be the cam guide plate for the gear drum, so after a bit of fettling I put it all back together & lowered it back to the ground the right way up. 9 Quote

clivegto Posted August 8, 2021 Posted August 8, 2021 Cut the boost pipe in half reconnect it with silicone pipe & 2 big clips. This makes removing the carbs a lot easier. 4 Quote
clivegto Posted August 13, 2021 Posted August 13, 2021 Fuel pressure gauge arrived in the post today. So set about fitting it, drilled a couple of holes in the aluminium undertray to route the fuel supply to the carbs and the tank return. Fitted a couple of rubber grommets to stop the tray cutting through the pipes. Quite tricky routing all the pipes as well as the wires on this as its quite a small bike really. 5 Quote
clivegto Posted August 14, 2021 Posted August 14, 2021 Fitted the tank today then filled with petrol no leaks and return was working to the tank. Tried to fire her up an locked solid. After a bit of investigation number 4 sylinder was locked with fuel . After removing plugs to clear the problem I did get it to fire up for a short while with a lot of flames coming out of the exhaust but not for long. So next step is investigate the carbs. 4 Quote
Dezza Posted August 14, 2021 Posted August 14, 2021 Think positive: it was a great result because cylinder 4 full of fuel could have resulted in something catastrophic, but it didn't. 3 Quote

Thanks, yes I did think that at the time . One step forward & 2 back. Just needs more time & effort. Am so looking forward to taking it for a proper spin 2 Quote
clivegto Posted August 16, 2021 Posted August 16, 2021 So I tried a few things with the carbs to no avail + shit load of plugs and even a different cdi. Was starting to get really annoyed with it . Then I though why not try a set of carbs I know to be good and hey presto she started up and ran like a pussy cat, a big pussy cat that is. Rode it round the yard clutch is dragging badly but I am really pleased . 12 Quote

jonny1bump Posted August 17, 2021 Posted August 17, 2021 Commission stage now dude this can be just as time consuming as the build and more frustrating. 2 Quote
clivegto Posted August 20, 2021 Posted August 20, 2021 Got a new SPS lithium Ion battery same as the one I have had on my other turbo bike for nearly 5 years now as the JMT one gave up. Also messed around with different clutch pushrod lengths to no avail to stop the clutch drag. Whatever I did it aither dragged or slipped. Took coil spring clutch conversion to bits, put it back together and was slightly better. Will be taking it to bits again tomorrow. On the plus side engine runs sweet on low revs round the yard. 2 Quote

Still the same more or less. 1 Quote
