SiBag Posted June 23, 2016 Posted June 23, 2016 If I upgrade my cams to a set of G4 Kent Cams. Do I need to upgrade my valve springs? Or can I get away with using the old OE springs? Quote
SiBag Posted June 24, 2016 Author Posted June 24, 2016 (edited) From the info I have managed to dig up the G4 profile appears to be an old MegaCycle profile. The closes match to current Kent Cam profile is the SUZ17 Edited June 24, 2016 by SiBag Quote

I reckon though looking at the spec they'll recommend using uprated springs as that is what it says in the Megacycle catalog about comparable cams.. But ask Kent anyway.. Quote
coombehouse Posted June 29, 2016 Posted June 29, 2016 I ran these cams for long time with new standard springs but after the last engine rebuild I decided to replace them with ape uprated springs which should have been fine. Cams were toast in 200 miles. Now whether the springs were the cause or maybe because the rockers & cams had done a lot of miles who know. I have some new cams, rockers & new standard springs for the rebuild tho just in case. BTW I think the g4 is a Cam Motion profile Quote
arnout Posted July 7, 2016 Posted July 7, 2016 Valve springs from APE come in 2 flavors.. There's the VS1100S type and the VS1100pro (for really aggressive cams).. I reckon the "pro" type are a lot stiffer and so would result in more wear.. Quote
Duckndive Posted July 10, 2016 Posted July 10, 2016 There was a similar topic on face ache recently rupperton mentioned poss coil bind with stock springs and G4 cams .... 1 Quote

That rings a bell - pretty sure I had a G4/G8 combo and std springs in a early 1100 engine - didn't last long as probably bound springs locked the rockers and that took the cams out - looked like a war zone when the cover came off and the cams were somewhat flatter LOL!
