colinworth79 Posted March 29, 2016 Posted March 29, 2016 ok as title , itching to do a new project this year , the turboed 1216 lump is coming out of the gia framed bandit to be replaced by a 1371 , so I've got a low mileage engine that I cant see the point of selling on as I'm not going to get back much of what it owes me ( had new gearbox and every bearing replaced1400 miles ago) so thinking of building something using this . Idea I have is standard clean 750 with maybe some dymag wheels and a race exhaust . Motor will go back to high comp je pistons and Yoshi cams and Yoshi flatsides . Debating on the model , I don't like the look of the slab sides , I quite like the idea of a j/k model with the right way up forks but am I going to run into clearance issues with the taller motor and carbs ? 1 Quote
Rene EFE Posted March 29, 2016 Posted March 29, 2016 '88 750. Engine will fit fine and clearanceissues should be taken care off by the aformentioned flatslides. The 88/89 frame is the smallest, lightest and arguably the most extreme Slingshot frame. The later ones were all more civilised so no point in using them imho 2 Quote

caferacerdan Posted March 29, 2016 Posted March 29, 2016 as Rene said though the 88/89 slingy 750 frame and swinger are the way to go if you want lightest/shortest wheelbase slingy Quote
fatblokeonbandit Posted March 30, 2016 Posted March 30, 2016 As above, 750 K with b12 and 36mm mikey roonies... no problems with clearance Clarence.. 2 Quote
fatblokeonbandit Posted March 30, 2016 Posted March 30, 2016 (edited) Thank you to whoever sorted that out Edited March 30, 2016 by fatblokeonbandit 1 Quote
1168turbo Posted March 30, 2016 Posted March 30, 2016 you cant get cam cover off with 88j...well I cant,with a 1052.. Quote
Rene EFE Posted March 30, 2016 Posted March 30, 2016 That's because you can't take of the breathercap separate. Quote

Captain Chaos Posted March 31, 2016 Posted March 31, 2016 I also had a 750J, with Powerscreen engine. Engine needed dropping for removing the rocker cover. IIRC the engine could not be installed with the rocker cover in place. Remove cover, hang engine loosely in frame, install cover, tighten up engine. Quote
Quist Posted March 31, 2016 Posted March 31, 2016 750 88 with 92 1100 engine. It is possible to remove the camcover when the engine is in the frame. (Y) 1 Quote
Sandman Posted March 31, 2016 Posted March 31, 2016 I got one GSXR 750 RK and one GSXR 750 -88, both with GSXR 1052 engines. It is poosible to remove the camcover when the engine is in the frame for the RK but not for the -88 J. Quote
caferacerdan Posted March 31, 2016 Posted March 31, 2016 does the 1052 engine differ in height to a bandit motor or can you not remove a bandit cam cover either Quote
Fula28 Posted March 31, 2016 Posted March 31, 2016 Colin, you may have pingel tap clearance to dress ,and the carbs should be ok, if you run cv,s it won't work been there chopped frame to suit caps, also we had b12 with 750.j.k dot head. Rocker cover is removable but need to take breather cap off. Also we run gsxr-1000 micron serpent headers made huge difference to power! If you can get one. Its all do,able just make it happen small light frame big motor many hours of fun. 1 Quote

Rene EFE Posted April 1, 2016 Posted April 1, 2016 88j 750 would be the same frame. I helped get the engine in Quist's bike and it went in without any hassle. 2 Quote
Quist Posted April 1, 2016 Posted April 1, 2016 My frame is a JDM one but think it is exact the same As other slingshots of that year. Quote
caferacerdan Posted April 2, 2016 Posted April 2, 2016 think thats evolved slightly past typical blandit status! Quote
colinworth79 Posted April 3, 2016 Author Posted April 3, 2016 had problems uploading the pic last night , was going to say rocker cover clearance is not going to be much of a problem as I have to do that to the bandit Quote
