Newbie here , Just recently bought a Suzuki Gs 1000 project from my local car dismantlers , Bike is virtually complete apart from an exhaust ,the bike is missing the v5 , number plate etc and was hoping someone on here could throw some light on the bike regarding year , registration no. etc ... I can clearly read the Vin Number on the headstock ... Any help / advice would be appreciated. many thx :tu ....

Can’t give much information as I never got a v5 or registration with the bike but I have some pics if this helps ? Think it’s a 1978 model going by the clocks but not certain ..

Single front disc- looks like an early one

Odd.

Never seen an alloy wheel bike with a single disc. Early bikes usually had spokes.

Tank is from a 750.

Two Tail pieces shown plus a random Gurls blouse!

You should obviously be aware of buying without getting the V5 especially from a breaker! If you get an HPI check based on the frame number, this will give the Reg. No. and other history . . . . . . then you can get the V5 but be aware if the bike has been off the road for any decent period the DVLA may ask to see pictures of the bike in a complete state or ask to inspect it, so to prove you aren't just trying to register a plate and ring a stolen bike! Of course it could be stolen - but that's the risk you took buying it !

The bike is a bitsa of Suzuki parts

The chassis and engine are from a 1978 US C model, should have spoked wheels, E wheels swapped in

The side covers are from a 79 1000 E

The tank is a 750

....I got a vin check done and the bike is coming back as a 1978 Suzuki  Gs 1000 , I now have a registration number as well , just need to apply for a V5 and get her ready for Mot, altho being 47 years old it is prob exempt ?..

Yes, it's MOT exempt. Apply for Historic Tax when you go for V5.

Best not to ask DVLA to multi task

get the V5 first then do the historic thing at a Post Office
