Oh wise and noble town folk of OSS.

Dumb question time.

Whate the differences between the TL and the SV power plants, injectors etc. ?

Or are the basically the same engine?

Cheers.

I believe the tl has different clutch ( better) than the sv/ Vstrom and the crankcase has difference too apparently the rear engine mounts are different(wider?) , sv and Vstrom being the same design

There are lots of differences, big and small. For instance, the TLS/TLR and SV all have their own injection system. Any specific information you are looking for?

ive ridden both, the tl engine is miles better. the sv feels like a sanitised restricted version of the tl .

yeah i agree, the TL's have an evil engine and just want to wheelie all the time, nearly looped a customers TLR once O.o just a bit too much throttle, fecking shit myself :$

Yeah early ones are the most entertaining.. also most problematic.

yeah ive fitted new frames to 2 of them, and had the top end off another,  fecking cam timing is a nightmare, you really need to read the factory manual closely :S

Had a '97 one. Had some clutch issues so changed the springs (early 5 spring clutch) which helped a lot. Then one day I gave it some and either the back torque limiter thingy in the clutch slipped or the wheel slipped.. something grabbed pretty firmly. Mag wheel with minimal cush probably didn't help. Anywho, engine didn't feel happy after that.. rode it some more.. maybe 50 miles. Tore into the engine and noticed the big end had sheared about 3/4 of the way around :D

big ends are a common point of failure on these usually spun bearings.

im on the third tl, i love em.

i just sold an absolute stunner. it took me years to find an original like this, it was absolutely like new, and i had to travel to Nottingham for it, (from the NE of Scotland)...hows that for devotion.

,mon the Tls, but as you probably know the S is better than the R
