Hi guys,

has anyone replaced the 4 pot Nissin with the 6 pot Tokico?
Can you give me some feedback on the braking feel?
Modulability, especially in emergency braking, stopping distance, etc

Thanks :)

Have used plenty of 6 piston tokico calipers and the 4 pot nissins. The 6 pots were pretty good when new, but quickly get worse with time, various pistons don't move freely and muck up power and feel. The nissins are more reliable, using ebc or SBS pads make them a very good caliper. The next step up is radial calipers,  not 6 pots, but you need different forks for those.

Over hauling the calipers is worth the effort, clean the pistons and replace the seals - make sure your master cylinder is working well too.

It’s very popular to see the Toxic 6 plops removed and 4’s fitted.  I have two bikes here with them, and when they need any maintenance they’ll go in the bin.

Folk regularly tell me they just need regular maintenance and a bit of love, but I’ve had them on brand new bikes and in my opinion they are average on a good day.

Don't bother with them. I had them on the Bandit for years and put up with them, then swop them for 4 pots. They look the business, but are average at best.

As everyone else has said the 4-pots are actually better calipers. Let me rephrase that: they work just as well if not better with the original master cylinder and are more reliable (need striping and cleaning less often). I had the six-pots on my gen 1 Busa and rebuilt them properly. They were fine after that but were no better than the 4-pots on my GSXR (the Busa was about 20kg heavier). I kept the 6-pots on for originality but would not retrofit them to replace the 4-pots. The best 90mm-hole calipers are the Shindy Nissin 6-pots, if you can find them.
