general_piffle Posted June 4 Posted June 4 I stumbled across this Japanese made exhaust recently and really like the look of it. It's listed as being for the 1100 Kat but I wonder if it will also fit the 1000? Exhaust exit ports in the cylinder head should be the same size shouldn't they, and frame dimensions the same. So, I'm thinking in theory it should fit, unless I'm missing something? Have asked the manufacturer, but being based in Japan language might be an issue as I've not heard back. https://japan.webike.net/products/22051247.html Quote
R1guy Posted June 4 Posted June 4 In short - yes. Unless I’m corrected, all of the external dimensions on a gsx1000 are the same as the more common 1100 variant. I would also expect the frames to be identical regarding exhaust hangers . 1 Quote
Dezza Posted June 5 Posted June 5 Did you contact the manufacturer directly? I ask as both times I have done this with bike bits manufacturers based in Japan, Daytona gauges and Xfam sprockets, they have been hyper-efficient and polite, and do what is asked quickly. Unlike communications with many UK based businesses, some of whom seem to regard customers as flies in their life's ointment. 3 Quote

By the way, I love that analogy and couldn't agree more. My experience of Japanese customer service has also always been excellent, often going above and beyond. Hopefully they'll get back to me. fab Posted June 5 Posted June 5 the rear muffler bracket won't fit as the katana has a different passenger peg mount setup. Quote

The exhaust definitely fits the GSX1100S Katana but I wanted to find out if it would also fit the GSX1000SZ Katana. So, both Katanas, but the latter being the rarer one developed for racing back in the day. Quote
Gixer1460 Posted June 6 Posted June 6 As I assume the 1100 was a 'bigger bored' 1000 to gain its capacity and not stroked, then again I assume that the cylinder height will be the same, therefore no reason that the exhaust won't fit either engine equally well. Given the 1000's relative rarity, the ex. manufacturer may not have had an example to test fit so their reply may be guarded or with reservations? 1 Quote
Fazz711 Posted June 6 Posted June 6 Both 1000 and 1100 identical apart from some internal engine bits and some countries have different carbs 1 Quote
