Tombola Posted November 3, 2020 Posted November 3, 2020 I have had a google.. I would like to change the gsx1100f engine i have to straight cut gears out of the gsxr. Can someone talk me through what I’ll need to change? ive had my F cases vapour blasted for paint, then I started reading about the side loads with helical gears and big power. I’d rather not buy another engine if that’s the case. thanks! Quote
Tombola Posted November 3, 2020 Author Posted November 3, 2020 (edited) I’m referring to crank and clutch should of put this in oil cooled sorry admin! Edited November 3, 2020 by Tombola Quote
Gixer1460 Posted November 3, 2020 Posted November 3, 2020 Well - gsxr crank and clutch basket for starters. Mixing & matching clutch bits seems to be a minefield so probably a whole clutch transplant would be easier? 1 Quote
Captain Chaos Posted November 3, 2020 Posted November 3, 2020 According to people who should know, the one piece crankshafts with helical gears can handle big powers fine. The pressed together ones from aircooled lumps can not handle sideways loads well. Quote
Tombola Posted November 3, 2020 Author Posted November 3, 2020 (edited) Ok... why are people so against the helical cut gears? I’ll add this was in relation to the F lumps reading up on it (some of which comes up from posts on here) I’ve heard of clutch’s coming through the side of the case etc but then this is the internet... id rather not have to buy a crank, clutch basket if mine is fine to use Thanks Edited November 3, 2020 by Tombola Quote
clivegto Posted November 4, 2020 Posted November 4, 2020 As said change crank & clutch. I wouldn't bother personally I plan on building a turbo F motor. Others on hear have gone over 220hp without any problems. Only thing is the 2 side ways thrust bearings on the crank will wear out slightly quicker. Quote
wraith Posted November 4, 2020 Posted November 4, 2020 So know someone years ago who had a gsx1100f motor big bored 1216cc big cams etc etc + 100bhp N2O handled the hp ok till he hit the N2O then it went tits up each time, I think if I remember right it was running 250+ bhp rear wheel. So I would think unless you're going crazy, there's not a problem with a F motor. Quote

clivegto Posted November 5, 2020 Posted November 5, 2020 1100f supposed to be 130 to 136hp standard with loads of torque as well, that's why everyone wanted one for there 7/11 projet back in the day and they were cheap lol. Quote
Gixer1460 Posted November 6, 2020 Posted November 6, 2020 Claimed - and @ the crank, and I don't think anyone saw that ! Quote
badger Posted November 18, 2020 Posted November 18, 2020 Dave said for me to stick with the f lump on mine. IHI bb turbo, 16psi and fingers crossed about 260bhp. Be it it's only done 1500 miles the oil in it looks new and no glittery business. Also have had some boost creep issues and seen 22psi a few times. Very much still in one piece 2 Quote
