Oilyspanner Posted April 22, 2019 Posted April 22, 2019 Loose bolt sits under the strainer for ages, the head rubs the mesh enough to cause fatigue, gets drawn into pump and jams the pump - causing mucho damage ? As Dunc says, excess pressure required to make aluminium explode would've made almost everything else let go first - has to be solid, mechanical block/jam - I used to watch Columbo ! This is a good thread Mr Bandit ! - not so good for the pump mechanism mind …….. 1 Quote
fatblokeonbandit Posted April 22, 2019 Author Posted April 22, 2019 This is whats happend I reckon, the bolt head fits the dent in the impellor too well.. it must have jammed solid and the rotor moved the stator sideways and the casing gave up.. 3 Quote
Gixer1460 Posted April 23, 2019 Posted April 23, 2019 Odd ! There isn't usually enough clearance between the rotor and the vanes to injest a whole screw head - usually swarf, maybe a thread? Quote

fatblokeonbandit Posted April 24, 2019 Author Posted April 24, 2019 (edited) Im sure this is what has hppened, don't know where the cap head has come from or how the hole appeared in the screen, but its got in there and jammed solid and destroyed the casing.. markfoggy Posted April 26, 2019 Posted April 26, 2019 So if it was lying on its exhaust ports and someone undid all the M6 fasteners off the back of the lump, did one of the Inlet stub screws drop into the head oil feed? Quote

Crass Posted May 1, 2019 Posted May 1, 2019 If someone had the rocker cover off to do the valve clearances and dropped a caphead bolt in the head I presume it's possible for it to have gone down an oilway or, more likely, the camchain tunnel? They might not have even noticed, just found one missing when putting it back together. Bloody shoddy workshop practice mind but we've all seen both amateurs and so called professionals who really shouldn't be working on bikes. As for the gear issue - the seller did say it had a gearbox problem Quote
fatblokeonbandit Posted May 1, 2019 Author Posted May 1, 2019 New bits arrived and fitted, just waiting for some new orings before slapping the cases together.. whilst im waiting il make the brakes work, as they dont at the moment..!! Quote
