He was working from home today, and heard a bang from the garage half of the shed, ran in through the access door he installed a month or two ago (his garage door opener failed and it was the only way into the garage previously, had to bust a hole in the internal wall to get the garage door open), and found a knockoff Ryobi cordless drill battery on the charger had exploded, and flaming debris had landed on a storage tub sitting underneath it... Luckily he has several extinguishers around the place (probably because his last shed almost burned to the ground, destroying the fiat he'd spent 15 years modifying and tweaking, and it almost took his house too)... Anyway, lucky the access door went in, otherwise by the time he got to the house to use the opener, the bit on fire in the charger would have spread and tripped the breaker, stopping the garage door opener from operating, and stopping him from being able to put the fire out... Angry Posted July 13, 2021 Posted July 13, 2021 Hi Gamma boy, iam in the process of rebuilding a jgsaw SB6, i dont have all the brackets and hoses or that pipe for the thermo, does the thermostat go into the same place as the coils or does it just hang between the frame and engine? and would you have a picture of the RAD mountings by any chance. cheers Quote
Gammaboy Posted July 28, 2021 Author Posted July 28, 2021 (edited) Hi mate, the thermostat (and almost all of the pipe) sits under the frame, the smaller diameter shiny branch runs up through the floor of the headstock brace to the filler cap. Have you got the parts book? unfortunately I'm a very very very very very long way away from the bike and can't take any pics or measurements, but the lower mount is a tubular A shape that picks up off the inside of the (unused) front engine mounts. Don't recall if theres another piece between the a-frame and the suzuki lower rad mount. There's a rubber bush there too. A little message popped up on Tuesday evening while I was on the couch watching the OG Ghostbusters with the missus "2 new ads for your search for Bimota SB6” - hadn't seen any pop up for a while, so clicked it. One was an ad with no pictures, "Bimota SB6 Sportendschalldämpfer"... Ad had been up for 12 minutes. Asked a few questions, transferred €150 and it arrived today. Despite the seller saying there were no stampings on it, when I pulled the end cans out of the box, I found this: While it's no Corse Titanium system, it is definitely a solid chunk lighter than the stock cans, and at 150€, I'm very happy! I neglected to take an overall photo - it looks much like the stock cans except with some extra rivets in the alloy sleeves, and no bulged section in the up pipe... 4 Quote

And picked up a spare Tacho and temp gauge, will replace my Tacho that's had a wiring bodge of some sort... Slowly growing the pile of bits that will come home with me. 1 Quote
Gammaboy Posted November 20, 2021 Author Posted November 20, 2021 (edited) More luck with kleinenanzeigen, found a set of factory fork tools for the Paiolis, along with a factory spares kit (which is short an o-ring - no buggy). Anyway, got back from a week's work travel away and these were waiting for me. Plan is to strip the spare set of forks (which I have here with me in Germany), hand the Carts off to a work mate from the UK and get them to K-tech so they can see if a ZX9R piston kit fits... Love how 90s the logos are. Looks like the tools have never been used despite a few greasy fingerprints... There's something really cool about factory tools, especially unused ones near 30 years old. Gammaboy Posted January 21, 2022 Author Posted January 21, 2022 So, a while ago I bought a spare tacho and water temp gauge as there was a little wiring oddness I wasn't sure about on mine. The gauges are made by CEV, and are very similar to Ducati 916 and Cagiva Mito gauges (in fact, I'd say apart from the bezel shape and the face, the Speedo and Water temp are the same, Tacho is a bit bigger). The Tachos have a little three pin connector on the back, and on the Mito, and a number of the parts gauges I bought a whole back, the connector pins had broken their solder joints and pushed through. The tacho on the bike wierdly has 3 wires direct to the board, and a slightly different sub loom to every other one I've seen. Anyway, a bloke I the UK had a tach/temp set with sub loom and carbon surrounded for sale, so I grabbed it. Skip forward to a few days ago, and someone else posted on the UK Bimota faceache site seeking a set of gauges, not sure what had happened, but the lense of his Speedo was shattered, temp had a big crack (like all the Ducati and Mito ones do!) and his Speedo lens and bezel were completely fucked. So I wandered down and grabbed my gauge set, ready to offer them for sale, when I realised I could just 3D print a set of bezels. So, what you see here is the culmination of about 15minutes of measuring and cad work, two 5 hour test prints to check the shape (needed a tweak) and size calibration (turns out I had to tweak my steps/mm by 1%) and then another 14 hours of printing, and 20minutes of tidying up with a scalpel and some light sanding.... Original bezels are shitty plastic, so the 3D print is possibly stronger. They of course need prime and paint, and a lens glued in (2.5mm acrylic shaped on a shaving mirror should do it), but should get him out of trouble. And of course, while measuring my spare tacho, I discovered two of the three pins had pushed through on the connector, and someone had made an attempt at prying the bezel off in one spot... So I'll need to do something about that in the future. Hell, now I've got the cad sorted, I could even get them CNCd in aluminium and anodised... So, no real progress for mine apart from the fork cartridges making their way to K-tech, but at least something SB6 related. 2 Quote

ArcanumOne Posted April 6, 2022 Posted April 6, 2022 I just found this site and registered. I have a 1996 White/Red/Carbon SB6. 8700 miles on the odometer and purchased new in 1996. Here are some pictures of my bike and some of the maintenance routines I have had to conduct over the years. The pictures might help as reference when re-assembling the bike. Also, one note about fitting the gas tank to the bike--yes, the Carb Diaphragm vent filter is mounted with the attachment flange upside down to lower the filter a bit for clearance. Even so, with all plumbing aligned the way Bimota did it originally, there is sometimes still a fitment problem where the tank rests don't always rest on the frame, leaving about a 2 mm gap or so--this is attributable to tank expansion when it is not full. The gas expands and bloats the tank. If you relieve the pressure inside the tank by opening the cap, you will see that the tank immediately contracts and rests on the tabs as intended.... The past picture is my dog rolling on floor laughing at me while I try to fit the tank back as it was.... 4 Quote
