  1. Cheers @Madb. I spoke to Chris at Grumpy Spares about over boring, porting heads and power gains on the standard 750 engine and it was running into nearly a grands worth of work and parts, out of my range at the moment, so definitely thinking back to the 900 option. I've dismantled the top end of my broken engine, the bottom end bearing has gone on rod 2, with the piston shot too. the head however seems to have survived with little or no damage, I need to get it checked out fully just in case theres a bent valve but its showing no signs of it. If all good then I've got a serviceable head to put on a 900 engine and Bob's your uncle, as they say . Just got to start looking out for decent S/H 900 engines and k4/k5 down pipes
  2. I like the stealth aspect of an Srad engine in a Rf body, excellent find . Luckily there is a Haynes manual for the Carbed Srad, best place for general info on standard set ups etc. Otherwise just ask, if and when you run into unfamiliar territory, but tbh a man of your calibre shouldn't have any difficulties playing about with this one.
  3. tell me more @Madb you have got me interested......
  4. Think it might be a better idea, especially as I don't know if the flood water has done damage that can't be seen in a general strip and clean
  5. Is there any write ups on this conversion in the OSS archives, or is it a 'Google it!' job? Really keen to look into this as long as my engine has survived Redruth's finest flood/ gutter water . Alternatively would it be easier to buy a second hand RF900 engine and stick it in the frame, with 750 carbs? or is that a whole different kettle of ball games?
  6. Ha ha, that's cool, it just gives me more to think about! Like the idea of the RF conversion, but \i'm a bit confused? If you are just swaping RF barrels/ pistons and head onto 750 bottom end surely the clutch would still be cable ? If I'm missing something out do tell, because this is all new to me
  7. Thats cool, didn't think I'd need to but wanted to get some sound advice first
  8. If no one else has the dimensions to hand I can ask my mate, who's just rebuilt his old hill climbing X7, to measure swing arm pivot and front fork width for you?
  9. Hello all! I'm just after some general consensus advice/ experience before I get into ripping my old engine down. Its my old 750 1994 engine which I've talked about on here before, the one where the piston/ rings have gone in cylinder 2. Unfortunately she also got flooded ( manky flood/ drain water not petrol ) when my work experienced bad flooding a few months ago. I've yet to strip the engine, but have filled her up with diesel after draining the water. Now to the point of this...depending on the general condition of the engine upon strip down, I'm thinking about a rebore and oversize pistons. Having been online and struggling to find oversize pistons for this engine, I'm also unsure whether I would need to uprate the valve train? I would be expecting to go approx. 830 cc ( previously found these pistons, but now can't find again ), and having never gone down this route, I'm now asking for advice on whats the usual changes made when oversize reboring? Its all theoretical at the moment but I'm doing my research early so, depending on what greets me when I open up the engine, I can work out my budget and gather a list of things I need to find/ order. Now, my other conumdrum........ The replacement engine currently in the bike is the 92 motor, same cc but without the magnesium covers etc. Would the gains made to rebuilding the 94 motor, be minor if I instead uprated the 92 motor with new Dyna Coils/ leads, invest in a stage 2 tune, swap the to magnesium covers and possibly swap the cams from the 94 onto the 92? This is possibly the easier route and probably cost similar? Cheers for any advice
  10. @markfoggy it is possible to get wet lay finished to look good, just needs a bit of time, patience, aversion to itchy fibres and about 20 years experience, oh and lots of wet and dry paper
  11. I bow in your presence oh large balled one ..., RESPECT !
  12. Hello and welcome, can't help with info on the swap but I'll be interested an seeing it progress if you do ( been pondering that idea myself ).
  13. Can you not raise the clip on the needles a couple of notches? Thats all I did to mine when it was running rich. Thought that was the first thing to check? I'm ready to be educated if I'm wrong though
  14. I've got an original W 750 end can plus link pipe if you wanted something to chop about ? It would look more period ( ish ).
  15. I've also been sorting a rotted header link pipe with chopping about a second exhaust and a section of swaged Stainless pipe.... Had to retro fit proper exhaust clamps as the ones I ordered, payed extra to have on next day delivery ( Friday), didn't arrive until after the weekend! Anyway fitted on the Tuesday but didn't have my camera ! Anyway, it worked, no more exhaust leaks and back to its usual 'fruity' sound
  16. So I haven't posted much up for a while as I've been flat out at work, but in between repairing and restoring old boards I've been doing a few upgrades to my bike. As a long awaited upgrade I finally got fed up with constant servicing of my six pots, got my wallet out and splashed out on some S/H four pot calipers.. before: After: So now I have wayyy better braking, with feel and progressive action, not nothing, nothing......aggghhhhh corner !! I've also added some adjustable shorty levers in anodised Black finish, photo's to come of those
  17. Wow, that is impressive! ' Love the smell of cooling fluid in the morning '
  18. It sounds like an interesting project, wherever it ends up
  19. Welcome to the wet side , keep browsing the web for these, when I finally have some spare money I want either one of these or a 12B for two up touring purposes. Like the colour on yours Kat, better than the brown version.
  20. Thankfully I managed to find a set on eblag last night for 90 quid, reasonable condition for age so I'm getting them next week
