  2. I bought the bike in 1983 with just 2500 miles on the clock. It now has 16500 miles on the clock and the engine is completely unmolested. It has been stud in a dry garage for over 20 years. The carbs have been cleaned and overhauled. New air filter, new inlet rubbers, valve clearances checked and oil changed. The exhaust is a Motad 4 into 1 The different header temperatures are only detectable as the engine is stud warming up. The inner 2 cylinders run hotter than the outer 2.

  4. There are a few factors that could lead to different exhaust temps across cylinders. It's quite rare they will all read exactly the same, especially on a 4 into 1 system for example. Also depends on design of the 4-1 with header layout etc. Condition of the carb internals will also play a part. Partially clogged pilot jets, float needle Condition and also float heights. Condition of the engine also will have an effect. Compression, valve clearances, weak spark to name a few. How does the bike run generally? Has it the stock exhaust system and intake fitted?
  5. I have a 1980 GS 750L tested the compression and got 50 50 90 105. Since I have to rebuild the top end, can I put a 1980 GS850 head on it and swap pistons? This is the 16 valve GS. 750. I think the 850s may be 8 valve.
  6. Hi All, I'm new to the forum so first things first, hello to all! I have a 1983 GSX1100 EZ which still has the original 4 into 2 fitted but has naturally rotted through the baffles in the intervening years. Looking into trying to find a decent replacement and I can see the obvious limitations of what is now available for a bike this long in the tooth and that got me wondering, can I try to source a 4 into 1 and fit a carbon end can that I was using on my Griso (Moto Guzzi for those that have never heard of it). It is also an 1100 so I'm guessing that the gas flow should be somewhat similar although a big twin will eject the unwanted in a different style to an in-line 4 I guess. Any advice greatly appreciated. Cheers Urbanus
  7. I have noticed that the exhaust headers run at different temperatures. i am looking for a colour tune so I can set the slow running pilot screws to hopefully even this out. But all the suppliers I can find online are out of stock. Do you think that might be part of the problem?
  8. Toecutter, Thanks for the input. I will check the engine mounts. I can’t feel any vibration through the seat or the pegs.
  9. I have a similar issue with my gsxr. Numb right hand after 15-20 minutes, slow-ish speed riding and on decelleration quite viby. High speed riding is fine. Have gone through everything. It was suggested that there may be an old bit of bar end loose in the clip-on eg, a nut that's rumbling around in there causing high frequency vibes. I still haven't gotten around to having a look as yet but have been through everything else. Have you checked all engine mounts are tight? Can you feel it through your feet? My old gsx1100 is very smooth in comparison.
  10. you have to be hard to ride old school bikes, not like the power rangers on their rocket ships !!!!!
  11. My old 1100et has been having its first outings in more than 20 years. I am quite surprised just how alien it all feels. I am very out of the groove. The bike seems to be running ok. However, there seems to be quite a lot of vibration coming through the handlebars. It is not too noticeable at first but after about 15 minutes my right hand is very tingly and starts to feel quite numb. Not the best scenario for braking. She doesn't seem quite as smooth as I remember. I have have balanced the carbs, fitted new chain and sprocket and new wheel bearings. Any suggestions as to what might be causing the vibrations would be appreciated. Not sure if I am expecting too much for a 44 year old bike.
  12. Do you have the valve cover that goes to it or the original cams or anything? It's not an 1100, valves are too small. F engines were painted silver. Maybe a slabby or bandit head?
  13. Don't ruin the MAG 4 !!! Its perfect !!!
  14. A busa motor might just fit in there just thinking allowed .
  15. Intakes are about 27mm , exhaust 24mm across head
  16. What size are the valves and have you got a picture of the side of it.
  17. Hi Folks, can any body tell me what year this head is please, as you can see it’s poorly so if anyone has one for sale I would be interested, cheers peeps ! Forgot to say it’s off a gsxr 750, race bike so it’s a bitsa, bottom end numbers start 718 !
  18. Still collecting bitz heavy duty clutch springs, Ohlins Shock and a seat hump .
  19. 1100s, at least in the UK, aren't exactly difficult to obtain. The 1000 is much rarer though as it was a homologation bike for racing, hence the 998 engine capacity and slide carbs (outside of USA). Weird really because as far as I know the only 1000 kat engined bikes raced were in AMA superbike. Even the factory machines stuck with the GS1000R engine based on the older 4 valve lump, e.g. the 1000cc alloy framed F1 bikes raced by Rob McElnea and Mick Grant in 1983. Probably due to the impending capacity change to 750 for four strokes in 1984, and knowing they had the GSXR750 coming out in 1985.
  20. The example I saw came from Suzuki museum I believe, it was a zero-ish mile show piece. I did search on a Japan bike market and they're still available, I may have a look for one when I go to Japan.
