Jdeac1981 Posted December 10, 2016 Posted December 10, 2016 Hi all, what is the best way to space out front disks? Small washer or have a ring spacer made using the disk pcd? Also how much is it safe to space the disk out? Cheers jon Quote
fatblokeonbandit Posted December 10, 2016 Posted December 10, 2016 How much??? I used old discs, to get 2.5mm offset, the discs carriers were 5mmish.... Quote
Jdeac1981 Posted December 10, 2016 Author Posted December 10, 2016 Probably about that amount. Seems the yokes I have purchased are about 5mm wider on the centres than oe. I have no issue centering the wheel was just unsure about the disks thats the idea I had, but never thought of using old disks. thanks for you advise cheers jon Quote
Jdeac1981 Posted December 10, 2016 Author Posted December 10, 2016 Just had a quick measure deffo 215mm centres where as it should be 210mm. I'm using 06 r1 forks and wheels and the disks are 5mm so your idea is not going to work for me plus the cost of disks is alot. Do you think that having spacers water jet cut would be the same?? Cheers jon. Quote
Madb Posted December 10, 2016 Posted December 10, 2016 You need to have them skimmed down to 2.5 mill each side if you use dics carriers or buy some stock plate . Is this for yer wp? Spacing should be 208 as standard. Quote
Jdeac1981 Posted December 10, 2016 Author Posted December 10, 2016 It's for an r1 front end with after market yokes. Which turned out to be wider than the stock yokes. And it going in an oil boiler with ws top braced swinger. Using r1 wheel also 1 Quote
Jdeac1981 Posted December 10, 2016 Author Posted December 10, 2016 Adding to this post if there are any other disks from different years that are of the same pcd that people know of. Then that maybe an option as earlier disks can be bought cheaper. thanks again for comments Quote
dupersunc Posted December 10, 2016 Posted December 10, 2016 R1 discs are a pain as they have a big mounting pcd. The offset was the same for years on R1s, though they did change to 320mm fro 300mm on later bikes. Speak to Kayla at Projection components she'll sort what you want. http://www.projection-components.co.uk/yamaha-r1r6-type-5-bolt-disc-spacer-1097-p.asp Quote
Jdeac1981 Posted December 10, 2016 Author Posted December 10, 2016 Spot on thanks for that link. Looks like just the job and at a good price. all help much appreciated. cheers jon Quote
Madb Posted December 10, 2016 Posted December 10, 2016 Oops. Soz. Me think of k1 spacing. I should have said 214. Hopefully you're sorted now. Quote
Madb Posted December 10, 2016 Posted December 10, 2016 Front end looks lush with them yokes. Nice. Quote
Jdeac1981 Posted December 10, 2016 Author Posted December 10, 2016 Thanks will be nice when polished up etc. Just a shame I got to spend/do a bit more to make it work right. cheers folks Quote
bluedog59 Posted December 10, 2016 Posted December 10, 2016 The spacers need to be of the "ring" type and the middle of the disc still needs to locate on the centre spigot on the wheel. You don't actually need to make them super accurate, by hand with a saw, file and drill will do. A piece of sheet steel the right thickness is fine for making them out of. Quote
Monk Posted December 10, 2016 Posted December 10, 2016 I just had two bits of 6mm-13mm alloy plate machined correct size, typical my lathe wasnt big enough! Ive done this on a few bikes front and rear Quote
Jdeac1981 Posted December 10, 2016 Author Posted December 10, 2016 Thanks again for the responses folks I think I'm just going to buy the spacers I need as with work etc it will free me up to do other things rather than making the spacers. while we are talking r1 forks what other calipers can I use I know the gold spots are good as they are an upgrade on the gsxr' is just wondered if there was any other options. once again cheers folks. Any of the JAp radial calipers should fit as they all use 108 mm centres. The Brembo M4 radial calipers used on some of the later Suzukis should go straight on and usually cost a lot less secondand that the same calipers in Euro 100 mm fitment size. Quote
