KATANAMANGLER Posted July 12, 2015 Posted July 12, 2015 Keeping the valves up is your challenge. You need the valve locked to compress the spring and remove the retainer and collets. There is a snap on set up that puts compressed air into the spark plug hole to charge the cylinder and keep the valves up and a tool that compresses the spring and removes the collets. Ask Yoshi Johnny.Personally I would just remove it and check the seats too. If it's been burning oil down through the oil seals it will be coked up. You can clean it and check the seats when it's off. 1 Quote
Zepp Posted July 13, 2015 Posted July 13, 2015 I have a great tool to replace deals with the head left on. It is a spring loaded punch-type thing. I use lint free soft rope pushed through the plug hole and gently bring the piston up to hold valves in place. Works a treat. 1 Quote
Jinxy Posted July 13, 2015 Posted July 13, 2015 Head off for me too, just a chance to check a lot of other stuff and make sure it's all clean and good. 2 Quote
gsxr884 Posted July 13, 2015 Posted July 13, 2015 Get a 3 angle cut on the seats whilst the head is orf 2 Quote
canamant Posted July 14, 2015 Posted July 14, 2015 Use the YJ tool. Leave the head on. I'd never take the head off a road bike unless I really had to. 1 Quote
Gixxerm8 Posted July 16, 2015 Author Posted July 16, 2015 So it's about an even split then off or on 1 Quote

kiwi Posted July 17, 2015 Posted July 17, 2015 IMO if the engines been laid up and you have/know its history/rebuilt and its mileage then yes change seals without removal, but if your unsure of history then i'd be stripping it for inspection SIMPLES Quote
