dago Posted April 10, 2016 Posted April 10, 2016 thinking about getting a dyna 2000 for my 1229 efe has skimmed head .they have retard wires to retard ignition by 5, 10 , deg when earthed .on my 3rd stater clutch was thinking i could have a button just for starting, and generally are they worth the money ? running dyna s at the mo, not too sure about the mech advance retard Quote
Gixer1460 Posted April 11, 2016 Posted April 11, 2016 The mechanical advance is usually foolproof - they either work or they don't! Check that first. Easier than swopping to a dyna 2000 just for the retard (which IMO doesn't work that well) is fit a switch in the ignition live feed so you can spin the motor over without ignition then once its spinning hit the fire switch! Usually easier to spin over if its not trying to spark as well! Quote
dago Posted April 11, 2016 Author Posted April 11, 2016 cheers for the reply i just wondered if there was any gains to be had over the dyna s. i have the kill switch wired so i can spin it over then flick it on after the last starter clutch went Quote
johnr Posted April 11, 2016 Posted April 11, 2016 does efe have mechanical adv/ret? i thought only the 1075 motors had the mechanical adv ret unit, the efes being retaded electronically? Quote
Duckndive Posted April 11, 2016 Posted April 11, 2016 1 hour ago, Captain Chaos said: yes EFE is electronic True but he said it has a Dyna S so will be using the 1075 A/R unit Quote
johnr Posted April 12, 2016 Posted April 12, 2016 (edited) switch for the ignition sounds reasonable to let it get spinning first, but it also sounds a faff!! Edited April 12, 2016 by johnr Quote
Gammaboy Posted April 12, 2016 Posted April 12, 2016 Modify the mechanical advance so it's got less initial advance - it makes life much easier for the starter. Just grind the stoppers off the inside face of the bob weights (Highlighted in red). 2 Quote
dago Posted April 12, 2016 Author Posted April 12, 2016 Cheers for the replys will be keeping the Dyna s.will try ginding the stoppers on spare unit cheers Quote
