Army Posted November 21, 2023 Posted November 21, 2023 Good evening does anyone know if the alternators internal voltage regulator will support a lithium battery, ie not overcharge it ? any info greatly received. Quote
wraith Posted November 21, 2023 Posted November 21, 2023 Have a look in general section and you will find your answer Quote
Upshotknothole Posted November 21, 2023 Posted November 21, 2023 Bunch of threads already on this subject. As long as your charging system is in good shape and hasn't been bodged together over the years, it should be fine. Better to error on the side of higher cranking amps with lithium, and they really don't like the cold, so not best if you're gonna ride it all winter. Quote
george 1100 Posted November 22, 2023 Posted November 22, 2023 I've got lithium batteries in all my oilers with no issues 1 Quote

True, however if you put the full beams on for a minute or two before starting it in cold weather it really keeps it in good shape because it heats it up and gets the CCA flowing well rather than hitting the start button right off and straining it I rode all year round for a long time, always using lithium batteries, once i had learned that trick they have always done well 3 Quote

Turn the lights on, put on my gear, and then fire it up. Quote
coombehouse Posted November 22, 2023 Posted November 22, 2023 You probably need to do the charging mod that is stickied at the top of this page to prevent over voltage killing it Quote
Diego_1100R Posted January 22 Posted January 22 Last year I put a Lithium battery in my '91 gsxr 11 without problem; from late '70, early '80 bikes has regulator does not exceed 14,5 V. Anyway the LiFePo4 battery has got a BMS circuit inside. Due to the high discharge current capability, I put a 4Ah Lithium instead of a 14Ah lead Yuhasa. Quote
