Morning all . Has anyone welded on a stock subframe back onto on a slingshot frame ,dad cut the original off in the 90s , but as I want to keep the original reg number for frame , I got a second hand frame with lock stop damage, but subframe is good . I planned to cut it off and have it welded onto dad’s original frame . If it’s a bad idea please give me other options. I want to run stock style rear unit

Not personally, but I’ve snapped a subframe lug off an alloy frame and had it welded back on again. After many years of abuse it’s still solid. I’d be surprised if a good welder couldn’t do it.

I was thinking , as long as I take measurements and pictures, it shouldn’t be too difficult to get correct .

Bear in mind the slingshot frame has stubs moulded into the frame, that the subframe tubes push onto before being welded.

Obviously this was for strength purposes, should be able to do without but worth mentioning.

You could always reweld the stops on the new frame, weld fill the frame number stamp and restamp it xD

Depending on where you're located and if the frame you have with the damaged lockstop's is in re-sellable condition, I do have the subby from my 750J (slingshot) which I cut off from the frame as close as I could get to the main frame rails, so has retained most of the "thick bit" that's sleeved inside the subframe tubing If you're interested in it, you could then sell off the "donor" frame you have.

Just a thought, as I kept the old subby kicking around in the garage :)

Your Dads bike was an M model originally wasn't it?  Bare in mine the M sub frame is slightly different to earlier subframes.

Aaah is it? In that case my previous statement / offer may not be of much use as the subby I have is from a J model.

Yes it’s an M . The frame I have I believe is an M . But I will check the number .. dad had a one piece M rear solo seat unit .. so I think it would work with any slingshot subframe ..

Yea but that's not his dad's frame and would make it Triggers brush xD

Exactly that . I remember him buying the bike when I was a teenager .. so frame has to stay
