wraith Posted December 3, 2020 Posted December 3, 2020 Ok, Doing the gsx1100f project and on the standard bike it has a bolt on brace that goes around the sides of engine form front to rear. Is it worth getting these and putting them on? Just thinking as the gsxr's slabside and slingshot have a similar frame design/set-up, as in a rap round main frame and bolt on front part but they do not have these bolt on side bits. So what do you lot think? Quote
johnr Posted December 3, 2020 Posted December 3, 2020 doesnt that big metal engine thingy bolted between the two mountings not confer some additional stiffness to the frame? 1 Quote
wraith Posted December 3, 2020 Author Posted December 3, 2020 You would think so But you'd like think there was a resin Mr Suzuki put these on the gsx1100f ? Seen some listings calling them engine mounts/brace/guards ? Quote
johnr Posted December 3, 2020 Posted December 3, 2020 i think that they were fitted on the gsxf because suzuki knew that the bikes were so fugly that eventually their riders would throw them on the ground in frustration and walk away. the braces were to protect the engine because they knew that eventually those engines would be scavenged for fitting to real katanas and other suzuki royalty....... 5 Quote
TonyGee Posted December 3, 2020 Posted December 3, 2020 dont worry wraith, people mocked and laughed at the elephant man but he was a nice guy underneath 2 Quote
wraith Posted December 3, 2020 Author Posted December 3, 2020 Lol takes more than that to bother me I just like doing something people don't and make them look twice Looking at my gsx1100f I don't think many people will know what it is and that's what I've always liked but not had a bike like that for some years. TonyGee Posted December 3, 2020 Posted December 3, 2020 do you mean the two frame rails that cradle under the engine ? if so suzuki fitted them for a reason to give the frame strength. without them it will flex and their will be only the two engine mounts at the rear. Quote
TonyGee Posted December 3, 2020 Posted December 3, 2020 ive just reread your first post wraith (im dyslexic), you mean the two bits that wrap around the cylinders ? they are for crash protection as they can be hidden behind a fairing, but they are quite stiff so they will help to keep the frame ridged. theirs nowt stopping you leaving them off but it might not help the handling !!!! 1 Quote
wraith Posted December 4, 2020 Author Posted December 4, 2020 Yes, the ones that rap round the cylinders I will keep my eye open for some. Don't worry, @TonyGee you're not the only Dyslexic here that's why some of my post don't make sense 1 Quote

Ivan Posted December 4, 2020 Posted December 4, 2020 Funny thing is, I took them of a couple of times for mounting lights of, painting, taking lights of etc. Every time I put them on used lot of strengt, by taking them of took lot less strengt. My conclusion they stiffen the frame cause there is some friction wich looses them. Sorry for my bad englisch 1 Quote
TonyGee Posted December 4, 2020 Posted December 4, 2020 im guessing your not going to use a fairing ? why not make some and make a feature out of em ? as they will be on show. 1 Quote
clivegto Posted December 4, 2020 Posted December 4, 2020 Could brace the main frame more so you don't have to fit them. 2 Quote
wraith Posted December 4, 2020 Author Posted December 4, 2020 Got some off that site, nice and cheep so will see how they go/look and will put pics up on the project thread. Mite work ok, as looking at putting some of them crash mushroom things on and could make a bracket off these engine bar things I will keep the project thread updated so you all can see what you can do will a gsx1100f (the whale) Quote
