Kenneth Posted October 24, 2015 Posted October 24, 2015 I have a '83 gsx 750et. I want to run a wider tyre like 160 or 180 so is there an easy option for a swingarm swap.ideally I want to keep it twin shock setup Quote
nw66 Posted October 24, 2015 Posted October 24, 2015 Gsxr Srad or bandit, i have one in my Kat running a 180 section tyre easy mod Quote
Kenneth Posted October 24, 2015 Author Posted October 24, 2015 Cool. Do you have a build thread or something on the swap? Quote
johnr Posted October 24, 2015 Posted October 24, 2015 you dont need to swap the swingarm. you can get a 160 or a 180 in the stock swingarm. altrnatively, you can buy weld on ally lugs for welding to the swingarm of your choice to allow you to keep it twin shock. i fitted zzr kawaski wheels to my kat with the stock swingarm and a 180 tyre on the back and had no clearance issues.has your et got a steel or an alloy swingarm? 2 Quote
Kenneth Posted October 25, 2015 Author Posted October 25, 2015 It has a steel swingarm, completely standard setup Quote
Pedda Posted October 25, 2015 Posted October 25, 2015 Gsxr Srad or bandit, i have one in my Kat running a 180 section tyre easy modThe SRAD swinger I have kicking about from a 7.5 cc carb model won't do the job. Bracing won't clear the frame. Quote
kja.busa Posted October 25, 2015 Posted October 25, 2015 (edited) The later gsx750w (oil cooled) twin shock or a gsx1400 or good options. Edited October 25, 2015 by kja.busa adding info Quote
KATANAMANGLER Posted October 25, 2015 Posted October 25, 2015 The bandit 12 swinger works well with a couple of shock mounts welded on. Lucky7 do prefabed mounts for the job. 2 Quote
Kenneth Posted October 25, 2015 Author Posted October 25, 2015 Thanks lads.is the 1200 an easy swap, I don't want to go for major surgery OR I seen a bandit 600 wheel with 160 tyre for sale locally do ye think it will just swap straight into my frame ?I can tig weld alloy so adding brackets for shock mounts would be easy. KATANAMANGLER Posted October 25, 2015 Posted October 25, 2015 The Bandit 6 wheel will go in with the existing arm. You will need to make spacers and possibly shave the sprocket carrier face to get the chain run right but nothing major. Quote
Kenneth Posted October 27, 2015 Author Posted October 27, 2015 OK so I got a bandit 1200 swingarm but no wheel. Will I just get the 1200 wheel and carrier and basically go all 1200 rear with the 180 tyre?? Quote
johnr Posted October 27, 2015 Posted October 27, 2015 get a box section ally swingarm from the katana, 1100et, 1100ez, etc, and it will fit straight into your frame with no mods whatsoever, same shocks, same spindle, same brake caliper mount, looks cool, just in an oldskool way. 1 Quote
Kenneth Posted October 27, 2015 Author Posted October 27, 2015 I agree it makes more sense but I can not find one, and any I do the fellas won't post to Ireland Quote
johnr Posted October 28, 2015 Posted October 28, 2015 how much is the postage then? or do you know anyone coming over to the uk, cos im not too far from heysham. ive got a couple of kat arms. Quote
Kenneth Posted October 28, 2015 Author Posted October 28, 2015 I doubt it's expensive for postage. Just seems that ebayers don't like posting to Ireland. The bandit swinger I got was in UK and it was £5 postage.I have this account with "parcel motel" which makes it easy and cheap to get stuff from UK to Ireland. The postcode for this is BT36 4PE So all the UK sender does is drop it to post office and send to parcel motel with my address. How much would you want for one of your kat swinger if you would sell? Swiss Toni Posted October 29, 2015 Posted October 29, 2015 You may find, if you use a 180 tyre, the stiffening webs inside the arm will have to be ground away about 1"-2" to clear the tyre. You could then chamfer and cap it! 1 Quote
johnr Posted October 29, 2015 Posted October 29, 2015 i ran a 180 on the back of mine on a kawasaki zzr rim, no clearance issues. Quote
Kenneth Posted October 29, 2015 Author Posted October 29, 2015 John. What exactly did you have to do to get it all to work with fitting a 180 Quote
johnr Posted October 31, 2015 Posted October 31, 2015 aye but there are 180's and there are 180s! i used a zzr600 rim with metz rennsport tyre, sticky as fook but short life, but i bought them part used from a roundy roundy racer with one meeting on them for 25 quid apiece so wasnt too concerned. i used zzr600 wheels, the rear i used the suzuki spindle and got new bearings to fit the suzuki spindle into the kawasaki hub, the bearing in the cush drive i left as it was a huge thing with a top hat spacer in it which i just drilled out to take the suzuki spindle, other than a couple of spacers and drilling out the kawasaki caliper hanger to fit the suzuki spindle it all went in ok. i got a new rear sprocket (530 pitch iirc) that had a lip on it fitting thislet me move the rer sprocket in about 2mm, at the front i ground the teeth and about 10mm off a worn out original 630 pitch sprocket, leaving me a splined spacer, i then used this to space out the front sprocket enough to line up the chain run. i actually welded it to a new 530 front giving me a much wider contact on the splined shaft and it all lined up. no tyre clearance or chain clearance issues. i will look for some pics though im not sure if i still have them. 1 Quote
Peterrr Posted November 7, 2015 Posted November 7, 2015 I have a rear swinger from a GSX1200 Inazuma in my katana, going to put a 170 tyre on there because it gives the chain more clearance, so won't have any chain run problems, and still have a fat tyre. Also have an aircooled 1100 with stock swingarm, also going to use an 170 because the 180 that is in there runs against the chain and the frame.. Quote
