Pd1987 Posted October 15, 2015 Posted October 15, 2015 Just finishing my rebuild and looking at the mounting bracket it looks pants and I think it will snap my repair again over time. Has anyone come up with additional bracing or anything? Any pics would be good Quote
Swiss Toni Posted October 15, 2015 Posted October 15, 2015 There was bracing on the original. Make a 'doubler' out of alloy plate, satin black it...and Robert's your Mothers Brother! Quote
Guest YoshiJohnny Posted October 15, 2015 Posted October 15, 2015 I just used 2 of the original strip braces on each side Quote
Swiss Toni Posted October 16, 2015 Posted October 16, 2015 John, are the original strips plastic? I found one in me box, and was wondering wtf it was! Quote
vizman Posted October 16, 2015 Posted October 16, 2015 I made some alloy plates for the dudettes, i'll take some pics manyana.....[ish] Quote
WeirdJimmy Posted October 28, 2015 Posted October 28, 2015 This may be a bit obvious but .. lose the mirrors... they're only good for seeing you shoulders anyways LOL Bar ends are you friends ...and make sure the rear brace is bent correctly so as not to put stress on.. and make alloy braces to replace the flimsy stockers as previously stated. If that still doesn't work, it may be time to replace that brittle old ABS with fiberglasshttp://www.airtech-streamlining.com/suzuz/GSXR11001986-88.htm Quote
vizman Posted October 28, 2015 Posted October 28, 2015 I could've made them a bit longer I guess, but they appear to be doing what I wanted them to.....old plastics...brittle....I also replaced the well nuts/rubber bungs in the ends of the stay by welding on a 10mm nut. Quote
Swiss Toni Posted October 28, 2015 Posted October 28, 2015 Viz. Pop a coupla 'photo's up of the Dudettes bike? Quote
vizman Posted October 28, 2015 Posted October 28, 2015 @Swiss Toni there's a couple of pics of it in havocs 'autumn is ace' thread and also in the dudettes' project thread 'ol'red'.....it's wangin' it down here, if I drag her slabby out and get it wet i'll be made to clean it..... Quote
Swiss Toni Posted October 28, 2015 Posted October 28, 2015 Cheers Bud! It's the same up here. 'Canna see a finga afore ya'! Quote
canamant Posted October 28, 2015 Posted October 28, 2015 I could've made them a bit longer I guess, but they appear to be doing what I wanted them to.....old plastics...brittle....I also replaced the well nuts/rubber bungs in the ends of the stay by welding on a 10mm nut.I dis away with the well nuts/bungs altogether by brazing a half inch length of tube to the metal plate like you did. The ID of the tube is the same as the OD of the farting stay so tits lips over and is held secure with an R clip pushed through a hole drilled through the assembly. Real period racer job and it pulls off in seconds. Quote

Nelson Posted November 1, 2015 Posted November 1, 2015 Mine had these metal plates on the outside. The fairing is supported on both sides. It is visible, but not to stand out, a compromise. The fairing is a mess underneath, I don't know if they were put on before it started to crack, seems unlikely.Maybe put on after it started to crack, to help stabilise it.I've had it 2 years & its not got any worse.
