Brian foord
My katana 1100 has a oil leak from behind the sprocket casing. I think it could be coming from the electrical thingy behind the sprocket. Any ideas? Quote Link to comment
johnr
neutral light switch sender, they just use an o ring. it might also be from the camchain tensioner, or the o ring sealing the starter motor. take the cover off, give it a good clean with carb cleaner and then run the engine. my guess is the gearchange shaft oil seal though. wraith
+1 with @johnr but first you need to take the sprocket cover off that will give you more of a idea, give it a clean and as said start engine and run it up to temp. Non of the seals are a hard job and can be done without removing the motor or stripping it down. Quote Link to comment
HUM
check also O-ring starter Quote Link to comment
johnr
its also possible if the side case has been off recently that the rubber seal round the wires to the alternator or the gasket under the cover have been pinched, damaged, split or misalligned some way. Quote Link to comment
Gixer1460
Or, as no one else has said it, gearbox output shaft seal ! Quote Link to comment
Brian foord
It looks like the oil leak is the neutral switch. Where can I get the o ring and can it be taken off with the bike on a paddock stand without draining the oil? Quote Link to comment
Gixer1460
On a paddock, oil loss should be minimal - there will be some but it ain't gonna flood out. Any common thin o ring which is approx the right dia or smaller can be stretched over will seal as its not under any pressure. Quote Link to comment
Reinhoud
Only one solution, take it apart and have a look.. More then one option. Quote Link to comment
