Captain Chaos Posted September 15, 2019 Posted September 15, 2019 R means 750cc, the 1127 engine number should start with V Quote
jimbob43 Posted September 15, 2019 Author Posted September 15, 2019 Strange, engine numbers don't look like they've been tampered with, and it's only got 5 gears Quote
dupersunc Posted September 15, 2019 Posted September 15, 2019 Could be a bitza. 750j/k cases. 1052 crank and gears, 1127 top end. Has it got the big starter motor boss on the casing? Quote
jimbob43 Posted September 15, 2019 Author Posted September 15, 2019 Never knew there was a difference in the starter casing Quote

Gixer1460 Posted September 15, 2019 Posted September 15, 2019 Summat strange going on as should be third iteration of the 750 family - 1st GS750, 2nd GSX 3rd GS ES? (or was the ES just a remodelled GSX?) Bit of a Frankenstein whatever! As for buying parts - good luck as the parts kid will give you a 'blank thousand yard stare' with that concoction LOL! 1 Quote
jimbob43 Posted September 15, 2019 Author Posted September 15, 2019 Ain't going to use it now, it's a one for spares I think, will be looking for a decent 12 lump Quote

Captain Chaos Posted September 15, 2019 Posted September 15, 2019 engine numbers are easily changed. Or maybe the case came from the factory without numbers and they were stamped on later to match a 750 frame the engine went in. 1 Quote
jimbob43 Posted September 15, 2019 Author Posted September 15, 2019 Don't think they've been changed, they look factory stamped Quote
dixiethedog Posted September 15, 2020 Posted September 15, 2020 (edited) Jimmy, I've just been cleaning my mk2 blandit 1200 engine and noted the engine number which I noticed started with V720-******. I've checked the V5 which matches up along with 1157 on the engine. My Mk1 1200 blandit engine starts with V719-****** which is again an 1157. I was for a moment confused with the first number being a 7 as I suddenly thought, "it's a 750...." But what would be the chances of me buying 2 1200 blandits and both of them having 750 engines with 1157 on the barrels? None I hope. I dont have a clue with engine numbers though. LOL. Captain Chaos Posted September 15, 2020 Posted September 15, 2020 The 7 means it's a 4 cil. 4 stroke. V denotes the capacity. 2 Quote
dixiethedog Posted September 15, 2020 Posted September 15, 2020 Just as a bit of a side tale to this, Jimmy got the R703 engine from me. It came my way when a friend pointed me in the direction of a locally for sale "aluminium framed blandit". I called the seller but spoke to his Dad who told me this story. "We used to spend a lot of time at the race tracks and (to shorten the story)I bought the bike from Guy Martins mechanic (before he was TV famous by the way)." He did mention the mechanics name but I cant remember it, but he was Guys best mate. Allegedly. The bike was not an aluminium framed Blandit but a "streetfightered" GSXR1100 slingshot. I bought it at a bargain price after explaining that it wasnt a 1200 blandit engine and it was only an 1127. I asked, "Do you have the std exhaust instead of that "streetfighter" one (a 4-2-1 system). At the time I had bought a draw thru turbo kit from Mr FBM from his old oil cooled gsx et. I only wanted the engine. Plans changed and so the R703 engine went to Jimmy. If the motor had been built by a decent race mechanic could he have sourced parts direct from Suzuki with the help of his best mate Mr Martin? I genuinely thought it was an 1127cc GSXR motor. Even after all of this time Id love to get to the bottom of the story and find out who actually built it and what it is exactly. Pics of the bike which I'm sorry to say that I think looked hideous. 1 Quote
dixiethedog Posted September 16, 2020 Posted September 16, 2020 The engine found a home for a while in a proper frame. I really would like to see if I can track down the builder of the R703 engine and ask exactly waht it is. I did try PM'ing Guy Martin thru Faceache but he must be too important and busy to answer mere mortals. 3 Quote

Oldfart Posted October 2 Posted October 2 The GSX750ES from 1983 has engine code R703. R = 700 - 749cc, 7 = four-stroke, 03 = the Third development version of a inline-four four-stroke engine according to Suzukicycles.org. The list doesn’t show engine codes before 1985. If you google and find a picture of gsx750es engine with engine code you will see R703-xxxxxx. 1 Quote
