  1. im pretty sure its 14L max, thats the most i ever put in it, i was shocked. i ran it dry once at about 100m , no way its 22L. its pain in the ass. So eblag gs850 then. the 650g recomend was a good one to. threaded bar for new plugs is a good idea, didnt think about drilling a new hole for it, that would raise the thing to clear the carbs better and allow more fuel at the tap end . check out my gsx1400 tank attempt. really bad pic sorry. I had someone make up some plates to blank of the bottom holes and stuck a f###bl### tap in cos its easy, just a threaded pipe into the tank. if its sat forward enough to not look silly, it seriously affected stearing lock. Maybe i'll dig it out and have another go. i think its all about the front mount compatability for now, can anyone find out what a 850 tank front mount width apart is ? or that dimension for any other models would be useful ! cheers
  2. i i guess you welded on new tabs at the frame? im keen to avoid that. I reckon theres a tank out there that will fit on the existing front mounts, maybe with wider rubber spacers, but which one is bigger capacity ?
  3. hey thanks guys, its got a slingshot 750 enigne in it hence the stupid fuel consumption. its an EZ on the v5 but dont know if thats what the tank is. i tried another alleged 550 tank on it but the front mounts were alot narrower, mine are 14.5 cm accross if i recall rightly. I'm not too fussed about the rear mounts, cos im planning a new rear end. All of this is gonna happen around a b12 engine, which being even higher than the 750, will angle tank even further, raising the tap and lowering the useful fuel available. does this look like a ez tank, does anyone know what its capacity is supposed to be ?
  4. Hi guys, i really need a bigger tank, i get 100 miles from 12L in a 13 something Litre tank . Does anyone know what goes straight on?
  5. Kick stand switch goes to a little square diode thingy with the neutral switch, green and blue cotton covrred wires , mine failed once .
  6. thanks guys, rh swtch has lights and ignition wires close together but it looks ok in there. i beleiev my 750L engine is a good 0ne, but this kinda thing knocks my faith in it, and we gotta have faith or i'm gonna have to gat a 21st century euro3 orange coloured one FML . it looks so much better here without 'devon' conversion massive mudguard extender, screen and luggage rack / top box . Its teling me to take that shite off lol
  7. its hard to explain what happened , to clarify what i wrote i meant that with the bulb in, the light switch switched off all the electrical things. but after a couple of hours i just went for a ride and the light then worked. so maybe its cos 12.3 v in a 6 ah battery isnt realy enough and those were the symptons. it was weird , like something was locking me out. but theres no electical component that would do that. dodgy circuit breaker maybe so used a fuse instead of that but it was still the same lights on, bulb doesnt light , everything goes off and wont come back on for five minutes. gotta be the small battery, gives me the willys ; if that happens at 0500 i will be upset. Its charging at 13.8v i think thats good .
  8. its the same with two different lightbulbs no fuses blow, the breaker button thing doesnt move the ignition switch works , i can see 12.3 volts each side of it when its on, so theres power into the loom starts and runs with lights off this started after replacing the connectors to the cdi box cos a coil one had broken. but i didnt test the lights after that just that it ran. Then i took out the headlight lens to slack the bolts to add a screen . That was when i tested the light and found this problem. As far as i understand things. i mjustve disturbed a headlight wire which is now shorting . I'm not an expert and feel i'm missing something obvious with no bulb in it ive got 12v at the connector and the switch works without killing everything. so maybe not a short in in the loom, looks like dodgy bulb, but does it with different bulbs. anyone have any idea what gives and what and how i should be looking for ?
  9. could be throttle cable is disturbed my the tank moving. today i did some stuff to the loom , now i lose all power when i put the lights on .ffs lol
  10. Interesting. The impulse tank at 18L (I think) would be a really useful upgrade over my 13L 550 tank. It's 4 inch shorter and the front mounts a good bit wider, so possible. The gsxr750L front engine mount outside faces are approx 18 cm apart. It's approx 30 cm from that bolt vertically up to the top of the carb level, that being the highest point of the unit. It's 23 cm to top of front of rocker cover. And 25 on a b6 engine which doesn't seem right but it's hard to get at to measure proper. The rear mounts outer face are approx 16 cm apart at top and 11 horizontaly at the bottom they are 18 cm vertically apart from one another. The front , and rear upper, mount is 36cm apart. I hope these measures are enough to give you a rough idea , I don't think they would pass an engineers scrutiny !
  11. I was thinking of getting one of these to donate it's comparatively modern tank , seat and tailpiece, to my gs550 . Can you measure the impulse tank between its front mounts and from them to the back ones ? I can put up oil cooled motor measurements. Cheers

Interested. Might do my valves special like. Rutland is a bit north tho
  13. You want shorter 'dog bones'; the linkage pair of thingies that connect the 'knuckle' , that the lower shock mount bolts to, and the swingarm. That will jack up the back a bit, a small difference in the length of the dog bones will make a big difference to rear ride height. That will also increase the rate the spring compresses, effectively giving more preload and firming things right up. You dont want a longer shock, it needs to be the same length to fit. I think in the 'vault' on this site is a table with lots of fork options and their lengths, id say concentrate on that first then get it together back on the road and do the rear end swap after a few miles. That looks pretty cool sat with no fairing Maybe keep an eye out for a cheap seven fifty motor to keep ready to go in
  14. yeah we worried about that, and all along i have a spare seal, but i did nt fancy immobikising the bike by finding out the seal retaining plate thing bolts were knackered and it wouldnt go back together . so i did a little rain dance and so far so good
  15. thanks for the help guys. The stilson was too bulky, i used an old pipe wrench with a axle stand stuck on the end to extend it under the frame and jam it in there. I put an extension on the socket and supported it on the other axle stand. Then i stood on the torque wrench and carefullly hopped up and down on it . After a while i got bored and went out looking for a scaffold bar, wandered around wih that for a while getting funny loks, then tried the hopping again with that on the end. Eventually i pushed the bike a mile uphill (ffs) to the local car garage and they attcked it with a air gun thingy. after that catapulted the screwdriver they braced the cog with accross the room , they used a blowlamp. after that the impact gun undid it straight up. Then i coasted it home, downhill see, through the park. Now the new lower gear really shows up the poor fueling and theres more work to do where there was none before, again. Credit to gsxr884 for finding loads of 520 sprocket options for me and next day delivery at an unbeatable price
  16. i like the look of the jt 1100 520 conversion cos its steel, i had a talon one before and that ally didnt last too long. How the hell can i shift the old front sprocket ? if use the nut on the crank to brace it, something will undo itself
  17. doh, it lunched; the front sprocket cover; one of the carrier bolts ; and whacked me on the back i couldnt figure out what was going on lol For me this is not a straightforward replacement, id normally ride it to a garage so they can do the chain rivet proper but now im stuck at home with it. its a b12 wheel and swingarm , 750L motor in gs550 frame. it needs to be a 520. I found a rear sprocket that might work : https://www.wemoto.com/parts/picture/bj-jtr-1825x48 , its listed as common part for gsxr1100 and dr750/850, but google cant find me a 750L 520 front sprocket, anyone seen one ? and how do i figure the chain length, Does anyone know roughly how many links a 520 chain in a b12 would be ? That shouldnt be far off. If i get a master link to join it, my only problem is getting the old front sprocket off without an air tool (or the old chain i left in the recovery van) how the hell do i brace it ?
  18. hi, you can get cheap alloy fork caps with preload screw adjusters. they made a big difference for me, fresh oil in the legs at same time. keep you on the road for the winter
  19. i dont think that look like the mikuni bst38 that came standard on my 750L. The whole unit is a real pain to get into the manifold, lots of grease helps . Or do you mean you just need one float bowl ?
  20. ive got what i think are 2004 zx10 pistons . I really cant remember what the pin size is, but when i got them it all worked out as a straight swap on the 1990 gsxr 7 and b6 , i stand to be corrrected tho as it was a while ago
  21. I guess compression height you mean the pin to top measurement ? Could you measure the standard piston. Ask parts sellers to measure that on the new pistons. Then get a rough idea and some data to do maths with? id like to know this to !
  22. Zx10 pistons for cheap big bore . Same gudgeon pin diameter. Someone mentioned this in turbo forum, said it made low compression, but couldnt you machine down the block or the head ? anyone experience of this like to share
  23. Johnr. so when you say flywheel cover do you mean the left side cover with the magneto and starter gears behind it. or a different cover . im being thick here. is the starter clutch one of those small gear wheels coning from the starter motor ? . like bluedog said too ill check them .
  24. Thankyou Johnr am i right in thinking the flywheel is inside the engine cases. and that you are saying the starter clutch gear is bolted to it. therefor i cant get to it from the side covers . and i just hope for the best . is that gonna go catastrophically wrong at some point ?
