  1. I understand you want to do "it" right & once, but trial & error will make you a better bike builder, not an off the shelf type merchant! And your dad must have had that "Can do" attitude
  2. Oh dear, i build half assed bikes now! And then 8mm off centre is where one ended up, after taking good advice, i tried it, then found it was fine for 3+ years before selling it. As No class intimated, try yourself & stop blaming a lack of people or equipment as you will learn nothing! Adviice also applies to not giving you what you want to hear, but the stark truth
  3. The old S/sider was offset 8mm to the right. Never affected handling so i left it as was :)
  4. TBH most of the fab work is done by mates on here. I just figure wot i want then try it out & use my trusty measure! I often get it wrong It's all part of the fun BTW this is bike No 4 to have my bodge skills forced on it
  5. Agreed, I know fuck all about shafties, but driveshaft on left would lead me to say it rotated clockwise, giving the wheel forward rotation!
  6. I don't get all this? I have built 3 in a row back end swaps on GSXR1100L, GS1000, GSX1100EFE & have done all by trial & error. I'm not an "engineer" just a shed monkey, I figure what i want & ask the relevant people to make/fix/shave the bits i need! Why make it harder than it is?

Wish i'd come, but my eyes are so bad i can only drive 3-4 miles tops
  8. Std Suzy 2 point coils will fit any twin/4 cyl wasted spark system. And £12 sounds a bargain, but they're pretty cheap 2nd hand anyway
  9. Sounds very much like the starter clutch. My GS1000 Yosh has been welded & new springs/bolts/rollers fitted, & a couple of years of not much mileage on, it's doing it again

Hmmm, will be in camper if i can make it?
  12. Overflow pipes, floats sticking or levels wrong.
  13. Both at same time is rare! If 1-4 or 2-3 are playing up, then yes. But if it's any other combo, check your wiring/leads/caps
  14. Tis going on the drag bike, so will prob look at 5-10mm as a start. Just needed a reference point. No need for pics now @bernardo
  15. Anybody got a pic of it? need to know how much fork sticks above yoke & where clip ons sit & mount on 54/56 forks?
  16. Keeps me on tippy toes, unlike the Yosh which is so much lower!
  17. Got a Hagon in mine with the jack up link. Hagon is set at std height & the link raises it. Do the link as you can adjust height to suit, a shock will be set at one only!
  18. I'm sure Banoffee spotted a fleck of dust there
  19. Clutch & Basket was rebuilt & thoroughly checked. All was good or replaced! Was heavy & never improved. Tried several cable routes & no difference. Anyone on here who's met me & the bike will agree!
  20. Sure you not disteubed the wiring to coils? If it's misfiring on idle the unburnt fuel will collect until it ignites & flames out Also check that plug cap, may be loose or arcing out!
  21. My question to this would be, having dumped the HD springs & fitted a new cable in my bigbored Yoshi GS1100E because the clutch was ridiculously heavy, how would weight make any difference? The lever is "Popeye" heavy even if you are sat on it without the engine running, & when it is & moving it's exactly the same
