With matching inlet boots, you can use 36,38 carbs without airbox. The vm29ss bored out to 33mm work on the 1052 really well and you can keep the airbox.

When loaded, is her down to the ground? A bit of spring preload can help. Did you try the luggage weight different divided? Maybe the hole bike out of balance
