Zweihammer Posted October 11, 2018 Posted October 11, 2018 There’s an ad for an AiResearch (old Garrett) turbo for sale local to me. It’s a T04 with a/r.60 according to the the seller. I am a neophyte in the ways of the turbo. I have been looking for a TD04 or TD05, as they seem like the usual suspects. How does this one compare? Thanks Cheers, Zweihammer Quote
Gixer1460 Posted October 11, 2018 Posted October 11, 2018 Fairly sure it'll be a T4 not a T04 and will be too big for bike use IMO - The T3 series were about right. Not to say that if the core is good it couldn't be re-purposed with wheels and smaller scrolls but its a lot of work and money ......... unless you own a turbo shop! 1 Quote
Zweihammer Posted October 11, 2018 Author Posted October 11, 2018 That was my concern. I was only entertaining looking into it because it is literally just down the street from where I work. I will keep up the search! Cheers, Zweihammer Quote
Havoc Posted October 15, 2018 Posted October 15, 2018 I've spend nearly £800 in the last 2 years rebuilding mine, twice, and it's just gone again. Not rebuilding it again.... Quote
zedhead Posted October 18, 2018 Posted October 18, 2018 You should've just bought a GT28R to start with Tom... (errr, can you get them with a carbon seal?) Quote
Zweihammer Posted October 18, 2018 Author Posted October 18, 2018 Well, I went a different direction. I will bring it up in a different thread and everyone can marvel at my poor choices and lack of impulse control. Cheers, Zweihammer Quote
Zweihammer Posted October 19, 2018 Author Posted October 19, 2018 It involves these little orphans that just got dropped at my doorstep. Care to take a guess what they came off? Didn’t have wheels. Quote

What one, or more, of these is going on is my long term fevered dream. I just thought it was funny when I found out where these all where running in their past lives. I got these from a company that builds engine driven power units for underground coal mining. Supposedly, these units are so critical , that when they have any issue, the miners just replace the whole unit, never rebuild. So the supplier salvages the used parts and sell them off. Quote
