rolders Posted July 30, 2015 Posted July 30, 2015 Very happy to see this new OSS forum come to life. I live in Beijing China and own a TL1000S that's currently in pieces getting some performance upgrades. One of the large upgrades is the rear shock conversion. I'm opting for a Ducati 1098 shock but haven't got my head round about what kind of spring to use. What are the different types of shock conversions that people have done on their TLS? Quote
banoffee Posted July 30, 2015 Posted July 30, 2015 Running Ohlins on mine with their fork springs too. Quote
34Black Posted July 30, 2015 Posted July 30, 2015 Is that an Ohlins but still with the OE rotary damper ? Quote
banoffee Posted July 30, 2015 Posted July 30, 2015 it replaces the rotary damper and keeps the spring assembly. 2 Quote
34Black Posted August 4, 2015 Posted August 4, 2015 Is the Ohlins unit a straight bolt on replacement for the rotary unit ? Quote
banoffee Posted August 4, 2015 Posted August 4, 2015 It comes with the brackets and spacers needed and it all bolts straight on. Quote
Del Posted August 6, 2015 Posted August 6, 2015 My brothers tls uses the same setup as Banoffee's,but with a lowly R1 damper Quote
34Black Posted August 6, 2015 Posted August 6, 2015 I've seen the conversion kit on fleabag and thought about it.I take the original rotary damper can go back if you want to go back to standard ? Quote
Del Posted August 8, 2015 Posted August 8, 2015 Just go the R1 damper route, cheap, easy to fit and improves the handling so much Btw ignore the rusty bits and dirt,it's gonna be cleaned and got new nut/bolts and chain to be fitted Quote
Matt-Man Posted August 10, 2015 Posted August 10, 2015 Hagon do a kit too...I've had moie fitted to my TLS for over 5 years now and it's still sweet ! A cheaper alternative to Ohlins !!! Quote
Jay_111 Posted August 19, 2015 Posted August 19, 2015 Best mod for this bike. Transforms the handling when it gets hot. Quote
jamie k Posted August 21, 2015 Posted August 21, 2015 I miss the big tlr best and worst bike I've ever owned all in the one package 1 Quote
CHAM Posted December 30, 2015 Posted December 30, 2015 I made 2 brackets, spacers, put in a TLR Swingarm on my S and fitted a Hornet 900 shock in the middle instead of the rotary damper and spring on a stick. Had it for 4 years now, great mod and great 2 up. Quote
kja.busa Posted December 31, 2015 Posted December 31, 2015 There was a guy on TLPlanet who used a Ducati shock (Terry Lemmons I think) had the shock shortened internally and it worked fine, seem to recall it yhad the spring still on it too, can't quite remember, his posts should still be over there though. Matt-Man Posted January 23, 2016 Posted January 23, 2016 I've had a Hagon unit in mine since 2009... It's been brilliant. Half the price of Ohlins...comes with all the necessary bracketry to mount to the original damper mounts. I believe the R1 Shock mod uses the sub-frame mount ! dunno if I'd trust that long term....
