  1. Take the stand off - job done just perch it against stuff
  2. Any coil with the same ratings will do also check you plug caps aswell and double check there isn't water lying around plug/ head , also change plugs around new ones can be faulty ( not common though ) once you have the problem eliminated totally it should be now though givin the coils resistance issues if money alows go for a named brand Chinese should be fine but you never know Suzuki are too dear for what They are
  3. Checks for older bikes in general Starting from the top basically 1 tank - make sure no rust and if cap has a vent it is clear 2 pet cock - make sure not dry/blocked or worn / especially vac operated ones 3 fuel lines - everyone ultrasonics carbs that have lay for two years etc but who really cleans fuel lines etc ? 4 valves - some motorcycle engines refuse to start if valves are incorrect / this isn't just a make of carbs etc it can come down to a specific bike , suppose it depends what else has worn wear etc 5 compression - again best carbs in the world don't work right without something sucking through them 6 exhaust / air filter - some bikes do some crazy stuff if you think of playing with these and don't spend the money and time to get it all properly set up jetted etc 7 ignition - just check its not firing with any cylinders down then they are kicking in etc changing the revs etc And last but not least is the carbs I don't know the specific ones fitted to a gs 550 - here's a few checks that fit basically any old bike resto 1 rubber o rings and gaskets - this seems to be cropping up more and more everywhere , maybe it's their age , maybe it's the new fuel who knows but it's probably best just to change them if you strip your carbs again 2 float heights and rubber tips , make sure they are set correctly and the tips aren't dried hard or damaged with laying up for so long 3 diaphragms if lay or really old get pin holes , hairline cracks etc also make sure caps have secured it uniformly around the top in the likes of mikinis etc 4 float needles can be bent/worn and some have multiple settings at the top for the cirlips etc make sure they are all correct and if shims/ washers are there they are fitted correctly Also make sure the seat it goes into doesn't hang it up or snag 5 Jets some have washers or are supposed to be so many turns out etc just double check all this 6 butterfly's - different carbs different specs but Check them as well and adjust as necessary jsut a a few ideas fella hopefully it helps either way post back and let us know how you get on my own gs 500 twin has similar problem ideals at 3k sometimes and 1k at others ( makes for interesting commuting , never really know what's coming if you ping the clutch to fast ) anyway it has slightly different sized diaphragms and a few o rings missing - hasn't broke down or let me down so leaving as is just now what does work though is when it's at 3 k I hold it at biting point and this changes the revs which in turn sorts the carbs to around the 1k idle more food for thought the list above is just some ideas for you to think through also do regular plug chops during all works and once running correctly it may be best to change your oil if you suspect petrol could have gotten in through continued flooding etc
  4. Great bikes especially for the money they can sometimes be found at
  5. Most digi speedos have a compatible wire for wheel/ brake sensor iv used a few different ones in the past with no real fuss
  6. I have both the abouv mentioned evils mate . Are you still looking for sizes etc ?

    Bandit 1200

Defo second the float valves if this doesn't work it could be any of the o rings in the carbs this seems to be a more and more common problem ( maybe new fuel additive etc who knows) Ps change your engine oil if you get it sorted to play it safe maybe your new leaking head is due to thinned oil from petrol already being In there , give it a sniff through the filler cap
  8. iv got a thing for 400s just enough power to give you a bike bike sized thrill and just light enough to enjoy without weight and size issues etc defo underrated - gk76a engines are bad for snapping valve springs and letting go of rods also limited literature on them seems to make them a bit of a black art ,
  9. Tl is short for taking life's , sold mine for (at the time ) decent money and you now struggle to get a absolute shed for £1500 , still miss it
  10. Looking at those Color schemes and general design of a lot of bikes of the late 80/early90s you would never have guessed there was an epidemic in drugs and the rave scene lol
  11. Hi fella things to consider are finding a specific set of Gsxr yokes can be a challenge when half the sellers don't know what size or model the ones they have actually are tl yokes are not as common but at least you know what your buying and the bearing swap " above " joins it all together bearing swaps in wheels are simple - measure od of w bearing x od of spindle x width of w bearing biggest challenges your faced with ( dependant on your access to machinery ) is " possibly " turning spacers to centre wheel and making sure your discs sit in centre of calipers luckily as your using a few Suzuki parts most discs etc have the Same stud patterns so different offsets etc are available also spacing or machining calipers or between wheel and disc (within reason ) is an option it's bound to have been done loads hit the web for some "wheel swaps"
  12. I miss the big tlr best and worst bike I've ever owned all in the one package
