Damienga15de Posted April 22, 2017 Posted April 22, 2017 So I was at tandragee road racing today and it rained pretty bad , bike started fine on the half choke as normal and idled fine. But a few miles out the road it started missing and dying fought with it for about 15 miles to a petrol station , stopped it but it wouldn't start until I had the choke fully open. Foughtvit for another 5-10 miles then it came back to normal as the roads dried up. I'm presuming it's water getting somewhere it shouldn't. Anyone any ideas where to start on a fix for this on a 91M , on my old sv it was water getting up on the front plug a extended rad guard sorted it out Quote
teltwosheds Posted April 22, 2017 Posted April 22, 2017 Check the usual, coils leads caps rubber gaiters on rocker cover. OH not so obvious drain holes for plugs(exit above exhausts) 2 Quote
markfoggy Posted April 23, 2017 Posted April 23, 2017 And that old favorite if it has a sidestand cut out switch, go there first. 1 Quote
Damienga15de Posted April 25, 2017 Author Posted April 25, 2017 did anyone ever use dieelectric grease on the electrical connections to keep water at bay, havnt gotten to go near the bike since i got it home hopefully this evening i will have some time Quote
teltwosheds Posted April 25, 2017 Posted April 25, 2017 I got a tube of it but. It's stuck under a sideboard in me caravan so i use vasaline cos I got a tub in the shed and it wipes off easy i Quote
Jonny Posted April 25, 2017 Posted April 25, 2017 I always look at the coils first. Where they are located, they get all the steam off the engine. Had this twice before. Quote
Damienga15de Posted April 26, 2017 Author Posted April 26, 2017 Thats possibly it, there was a lot of steam rising off the headers Quote

beam Posted April 28, 2017 Posted April 28, 2017 Check the circuit breaker and wires under the battery tray , ,it gets covered in road grime and fails Quote
Damienga15de Posted April 28, 2017 Author Posted April 28, 2017 Gsxr 1000 coils in , new plugs , started first touch no choke and sounding sweet only ran for a few seconds on the fuel in the bowls. Having issues refitting the tank petrol lines are a pain 1 Quote
Damienga15de Posted April 30, 2017 Author Posted April 30, 2017 Bikes running better than ever on the new coils really smooth now the old leads and caps were well past their best Quote

Damienga15de Posted July 27, 2017 Author Posted July 27, 2017 So another rainey day trip into work and more missfiring, its not the sidesstand switch. Any other suggestions ? Quote
Damienga15de Posted July 27, 2017 Author Posted July 27, 2017 The reset switch and starter solenoid are under the seat now too since I swooped In the s1000rr shock, could it be the kill switch ? Quote
hippypaul Posted July 27, 2017 Posted July 27, 2017 I've just had this problem with my powerscreen engined chop. Was CDI box full of water. Emptied and flushed with WD40 and it's fine now. 1 Quote
Damienga15de Posted July 27, 2017 Author Posted July 27, 2017 Might try that , I'll be putting in a new air filter tomorrow so I can check cdi while in there Quote
Damienga15de Posted July 30, 2017 Author Posted July 30, 2017 CDI is bone dry , iv pulled all connections apart and covered all in vaseline everything except the green one under the tank. Next spin in the wet should go well hopefully if not I'm stumped. Soon as I refit the sebring system ill be getting the carbs balanced Quote
