Cam timing check.... something is not quite right

yes the height of the idler wheel will change the position of the inlet cam.

Other alternative would be to fit slotted cam wheels.

Im happy to admit when im wrong, its been a while since ive done an 1127 motor as i seem to have done alot of bandits lately but im sure the plates go on top. However, it wont hurt them being on the bottom, if in doubt. Get some slotted sprockets on the cams and degree them in to be sure

Thanks all - I can report it is back together and running like it always did. Without the head gasket leak.

So good result. I did as recommended, started with 1 - exhaust and worked backwards.

I am sure it was OK to start with but it was good to make sure.
