Full choke?.

Hi there, I'm just wondering if anyone knows if it's normal for my 1991 Gsxr750m to rev to around 3000rpm on full choke, if so how many of you start your oil boilers on full choke.will the engine be okay from 0 to 3000rpm from cold.

They’re cold blooded engines. I start mine with choke all the time and 3K is totally normal for full choke. Fire the bike up with choke, put my helmet on, turn off the choke. When it’s warmer out, I’ll only use half choke to get it fired up.

Any SACS engined, c.v. carbed 7 or 11 I've owned, would start building up to 3-3.5k on full choke.

It's normal but not desirable for a cold oil boiler to be revving its tits off on choke. Yes, you usually need half or full choke to get it started but then I ease the choke in (it will only stay at full or half open unless you hold it at intermediate positions) to keep the revs at say 2k. You want to knock the choke completely off as soon as it will tick over, albeit too low, as the choke causes bore wash. You're a lot better warming it up by blipping the throttle than just leaving it on choke, you'll cause less wear.

Choke isn't 'All or nothing' ! Its supposed to be modulated to keep rpm around or just slightly above running rpm - its an enrichment device to aid cold starting as fuel doesn't atomise as well in a cold induction system!

no it isn't on a Slingy 750. It's "All, half or nothing".

No cable operated choke but a knob directly on the carbs which can be "locked" in 2 positions.

My back from the dead 1100 starts up perfectly with 1/4 choke and doesnt hit 3k rpm. I cant stand firing a engine and crazy revs right off the bat, just suicide imo.

fwiw it only has a detent for fully closed so choke is operator adjusted.
