Loads seem to reply to something just to reply, some reply with identical answers to ones posted previously, and others jump in with the "What about [insert the blindingly obvious]?" You, well I do anyway, really have to be in a happy calm place before going on there otherwise you'd end up on a multi-storey car park with a rifle having a cull. Smart phones; stupid users 4 Quote
clivegto Posted March 16 Posted March 16 Did you see Brian McCalls gs1000 race bike when you visited? It's got no starter clutch just a case to cover the end of the crank which he can touch the deck with on the loop at Donington. I was quite impressed. 1 Quote

Yes, he's got some bloody nice projects and finished bikes in his workshop. Hopefully once the move is done I'll be able to get everything in one place too. Quote
Dezza Posted March 17 Posted March 17 (edited) In my experience suspension compression during cornering can reduce ground clearance by quite a lot. Obviously this depends on multiple factors though. Edited March 17 by Dezza Quote

Obviously this depends on multiple factors though. You're right it can and does, so I've allowed for that in the calculations. Once it's properly complete and mobile I'll be able to strap down the suspension to load it and do a real world check. There are loads of factors to take into account (tyre width and stiffness, suspension settings, CoG of the bike, corner camber etc) and calcs will only give you a rough guide. 1 Quote
imago Posted March 19 Author Posted March 19 The trouble with a build taking a while is you can end up coming back to the beginning with your plan. I'm back at the "that looks pretty good" stage with the RG bodywork. 1 Quote
imago Posted March 19 Author Posted March 19 Getting rid of the old graphics and sticking on some test graphics makes things clearer. Change the Dresda lettering to black and I reckon that works. 2 Quote
clivegto Posted March 20 Posted March 20 I like the rg seat unit but I like the new one better although I would have shaped the bottom part slightly different. 1 Quote

imago Posted March 23 Author Posted March 23 One of my least favourite things to do on the lathe. Today I'm making the foot long lower rear engine mounting bolt for the Dresda. 17 mm hex bar turned down and threaded to M10. 2 Quote
DAZ Posted March 23 Posted March 23 (edited) @imago sorry if it's a stupid question, or if I'm answering my own question, but why start off with hex stock ? I can only imagine that it's easier to produce (and store) hex as it's less likely to bend/flex than round ? Nice that you've got the tools to do it even if it is a bit of an odious task Edited March 23 by DAZ Quote

Nice that you've got the tools to do it even if it is a bit of an odious task Someone asked the same on FaceBook and in truth the main reason I'm doing it this long winded way is to keep my hand in on the lathe. Absolutely the easier/quicker way would be as you say to thread both ends of round bar and face up a welded nut one one end. But as I don't spend lots of time turning stuff up, doing it this way keeps the 'feel' for working with long thin stock. 2 Quote
DAZ Posted March 23 Posted March 23 Thank you, being a wagon driver usually when I see steel it's 40 foot long and smaller diameters seem quite flexible at that length ! Quote
imago Posted March 23 Author Posted March 23 Managed to get it done between other stuff this morning. Just need to cut a thread and trim it down at some point in the week. 3 Quote
imago Posted March 26 Author Posted March 26 I think that's about as far as I'll get with the Dresda before Stafford in a few weeks. 2 Quote

Rsvfletch Posted March 27 Posted March 27 Really looking forward to having a closer look. It’s turning out nicely. Well done. 1 Quote

imago Posted March 27 Author Posted March 27 I've got my fingers crossed that the front discs arrive before it goes to Stafford, otherwise up and down the ramp's going to be fun. 1 Quote
imago Posted April 2 Author Posted April 2 Absolutely no reason for this photo other than the sun came out. 7 Quote
imago Posted April 11 Author Posted April 11 Now that it's off the ramp and getting shoved about I can see the Dresda from more natural angles. The RG tail is definitely staying, it really suits the bike IMHO. Still undecided about a Harris style fairing or naked with a big round headlamp. GSX 1100 G for scale. 3 Quote
imago Posted April 18 Author Posted April 18 Loaded up ready for Stafford. The first time it's left the workshop since I got it. 2 Quote
