Scotty750 Posted January 17, 2016 Posted January 17, 2016 Anyone had any issues with making the GSXR750 engines fit? Seen loads around the internet. I seem to be having issues with mine. Tank won't clear the carbs. By about 2.5" I used the stock rear bottom tabs on the frame, as seems to be the common swap. Cant really lower the engine much more than it is. Chain run on the angles is pretty much perfect. Just not sure the best way to go about this really. Wondered if anyone else had any issues? I'm thinking the easiest option is to raise the rear of the tank, and modify the side panel to suit and line up a bit better. Thoughts? 1 Quote
Gixer1460 Posted January 17, 2016 Posted January 17, 2016 Does the tank actually sit down correctly without the carbs? Swop to flatslides may help as less 'bulky'? Quote
Scotty750 Posted January 17, 2016 Author Posted January 17, 2016 Good thinking. I shall whip them off and see. Looks like it may be close. Flatsides a lot of money? Quote
Captain Chaos Posted January 17, 2016 Posted January 17, 2016 or use 36mm carbs from an earlier Slingy. Are a good bit smaller than the 38's and are much easier to setup with pod filters. Quote
Scotty750 Posted January 17, 2016 Author Posted January 17, 2016 Thanks guys. Shall go take them off now and see how it looks. Quote
Scotty750 Posted January 17, 2016 Author Posted January 17, 2016 Thanks for that. Just about clears the cam cover with the carbs off. Its close, but only needs a little spacing. So I'll be on the lookout for some smaller carbs then. Mine are decent condition, so should be able to sell them to fund another set. Cheers. Hopefully that will cure the issue and I can get on with building it. Quote
Scotty750 Posted January 17, 2016 Author Posted January 17, 2016 B12 carbs are 36mm right? Could I use them? Just remove the TPS gubbins? Quote
Captain Chaos Posted January 17, 2016 Posted January 17, 2016 yes B12 carbs are 36mm. Use 1st gen B12 carbs, and the matching intake rubbers. Quote
Captain Chaos Posted January 17, 2016 Posted January 17, 2016 (edited) I'm not sure but I think B12 intake rubbers make the carbs sit a bit lower than GSX-R750 J/K (also Mikuni BST36SS) intake rubbers Edited January 17, 2016 by captain chaos Quote
Scotty750 Posted January 17, 2016 Author Posted January 17, 2016 Cool. Lower is good. Shall give all that a try and sell my 38's. Shall let you all know how it goes once I got it sorted. Ta. Quote
Scotty750 Posted January 17, 2016 Author Posted January 17, 2016 Might give these a try. Just a matter of finding some rubbers then. http://www.Eblag.co.uk/itm/Suzuki-GSXR-36mm-Carbs-Mikuni-Carbs-36mm-GSXR-750-1100-36mm-Carbs-Carbs-GSXR-/111870920085?hash=item1a0c06c595%3Ag%3As0kAAOSwYIhWknkq Quote
hussey1 Posted January 17, 2016 Posted January 17, 2016 i'm doing the same swap but haven't got to this stage yet so interested to see how you get on. I've got a 1992 oil cooled GSXF engine which I believe has the 36mm, I haven't looked at the carbs yet. Tail looks great, wish I had done that with mine originally! Quote
Scotty750 Posted January 18, 2016 Author Posted January 18, 2016 (edited) Cheers. Yeah, hopefully the 36 will give me a hell of a lot more clearance. Yeah, I preferred the look of the shorter tail on it. Just need to finish modifying the seat base to suit now. Edited January 18, 2016 by Scotty750 Quote
kingofvenus Posted January 18, 2016 Posted January 18, 2016 I'm sticking a '89 short stroke 750 (dot head) in my ES, i notched the tank (sidecover hides it) and moved the fuel tap to the rear, threaded bung for a pingel petcock. Quote
bigyellowthing Posted January 28, 2016 Posted January 28, 2016 Looking very nice. There was a tasty ES with gsxr motor on the old site for reference Quote
