Kevref Posted September 18, 2022 Posted September 18, 2022 Just fired up my fully rebuilt GS750 and oil is leaking from the right side crank seal. Brand new seals used throughout.: correctly torqued crankbolts… wasnt leaking before stripdown and new rebuilt crank installed.. Damn damn annoying !!!! I never put yamabond around a seal… but my rebuild experience is all 2 stroke… nothing different with these engines is there ?? Quote
Gixer1460 Posted September 18, 2022 Posted September 18, 2022 Is it fitted the right way round? They can be 'refitted' with sealant if care is taken. Quote
Kevref Posted September 18, 2022 Author Posted September 18, 2022 (edited) Yes . Was very careful to make sure the dimpled side faced inwards as highlighted in the manual .. The seals can be reset without splitting the cases again? Is that a common thing people have done ?? Edited September 18, 2022 by Kevref Typo Quote
Zenerdiode Posted September 18, 2022 Posted September 18, 2022 I think you’ll be better off buying a new seal, taking the ignition trigger stuff out of the way and tapping the new seal in. If you split the cases again, the seal likes to stick to one half and if it favours the ‘wrong’ half, you’ll stretch it and wreck it anyway. You didn’t say if it was leaking from around the shaft or between casing and seal. Quote
Kevref Posted September 18, 2022 Author Posted September 18, 2022 I think its leaking from the shaft… Quote
Kevref Posted September 18, 2022 Author Posted September 18, 2022 OEM… i never use after market Quote
Gixer1460 Posted September 19, 2022 Posted September 19, 2022 How you got a 'brand new GS750 crankshaft'? That's gotta be rarer than a rare thing that's come from the rare school of rarity! 1 Quote
Kevref Posted September 19, 2022 Author Posted September 19, 2022 Was very lucky ! Was the last one left… cost a lot as well. so pissed off with this seal leaking.. Some have suggested tapping in a replacement… not a fan of that … i think the seal has a lip on it , so that approach would never work ? Quote
TonyGee Posted September 19, 2022 Posted September 19, 2022 If the seal has a lip on the outer edge then its a crank case split Quote
