rodneya Posted September 12, 2022 Posted September 12, 2022 Picked up a dead EFE after it came up on my Facebook marketplace for a good price. Been standing since 05. Seller thought he had melted a piston after fitting a Vance and Hines pipe and pod filters. Chunks of metal and oil in the pipe and the beat up plug in no 2 cyl tell a different story. Other than that the bike looks to be in really good shape for standing that long. 4 Quote
rodneya Posted September 19, 2022 Author Posted September 19, 2022 Got the motor opened up a bit and its not pretty. Oil ring is completely gone and bore is badly chewed up. There is a massive ridge at the top of the bore. Suggestions on cause of the failure? Oil ring broke? Quote
rodneya Posted January 7, 2023 Author Posted January 7, 2023 Well, got some more of it apart. Still fighting with the flywheel, but I got the bottom end apart and think I found what happened. The entire liner is basically in the sump. 78mm MTC pistons in std sleeves. Looks like the sleeve cracked at the top lip. Quote
coombehouse Posted January 8, 2023 Posted January 8, 2023 I was always told 1230cc was the limit on standard efe liners. I guess this confirms it Quote

Gonna rebuild it with different crank and complete top end I have. I already have a GSXR front end, SRAD 750 swing arm and Busa wheels waiting to be fitted. 2 Quote
