Wiring Harness recommendation for rebuild project

Recommended Posts

Posted

Hello -

I am rebuilding a 79 Suzuki GS425 into a Cafe Racer. In the context of the electrical systems, the plan is to rebuild it all with modern components.

The bike is 100% disassembled, and I am renovating the frame at this time.

Is there a website or other recommendation regarding how to purchase a (complete?) wiring harness? I understand there are numerous specific questions required on the topic, but I am at this time asking for a website/source that provides this type of "ground up" custom harness.  RevZilla stated they cannot help me as all their harnesses are bike model specific.

Thanks -

Mike

Hi Mike

You might already done this, but on YouTube there are a couple of good channels.

Andy's motorcycle obsession. Completely restoring a GS.

Revival cycles, great diy videos.

ChiefPepp diy cafe racer buildt. He has at least 3 videos regarding wiring.

If you searching the original wiring harness check out

Also Google it. You'd be surprised what people are making and selling. If it is marked Cafe racer is probably triple price though

You could make your own as per the drawing above.

There is an aftermarket reproduction of an early h0nd@ CB750 wire harness for under $100.  It's a basic harness which should be adaptable to other bikes; may require changing a connector here or there.

Lots of options for regulator/rectifier.  Suzuki GS's used permanent magnet charging system similar to what h-d used for decades.

I've just started a similar project. For the loom I've bought one from a gsf650 as they are not too complicated, cheap & plentiful & should be easy to adapt. I paid £27 delivered on the bay. Was offered a brand new one for £30 + post.
