Mike-Polito Posted November 17, 2021 Posted November 17, 2021 Hello - I am trying to remove a very old oil seal from the crankcase on my 1979 GS425. I am attempting the install screws/lift out method. The seal is for the shift shaft, so it is somewhat small. The case is on my work bench. The seal is hard as a rock and I am unable to get a screw into it, even after pre-drilling for it. Can anyone recommend a type of screw (wood, machine, self-tapping, etc)? Thanks - Mike Quote
Wolf Posted November 17, 2021 Posted November 17, 2021 It is a butcher method but a sharp small blade chisel that can cut it in half ??? Quote
rodneya Posted November 17, 2021 Posted November 17, 2021 Ive always had good results with deck screws. Hammer the tip in a bit first Quote
Gixer1460 Posted November 17, 2021 Posted November 17, 2021 I guess you've already tried the screwdriver / blunt lever through the hole, block of wood on the case for protection and lever it out? Quote
Dezza Posted November 17, 2021 Posted November 17, 2021 Maybe warming the seal with a heatgun would help make it more flexible and to expand the alloy seat a little before screwing. Quote
no class Posted November 17, 2021 Posted November 17, 2021 that little seal will come out easily enough with a flat blade screw driver….. puncture the seal midway from shaft to case seat….. pry downwards like a man ….. and it will come out 1 Quote
