Clutch cable lengths?

Recommended Posts

Thought i'd try my Ef cable on the GS1000 & it's about 3" shorter.

So does anyone have a definitive guide to the GSX1100EF (E) & GS1000 cable lengths?

I want to use the shorter one on both bikes, but unsure which if any are OE? Plus the shorter one i have needs replacing anyway!

The 'efes' with different fairing options had different clutch cables. And as we know there is much variation among different aircooled models as well as within each model. Different ones work best with different aircooled engine/frame/cycle part combos. E.g. a kat cable will work with an efe engined bike but without trying different cables it's impossible to tell which is the best option. If you have one of the correct length, and know which end you need at the bars, e.g. straight, 90 degree bend, then get a bespoke new cable made by Venhill. Unless it has the part number on it, it's going to be really difficult identifying the exact source model of a cable, e.g. 'EFE cable' could be one of at least 2 cables, maybe 3.

This may be of some help (or not!). I have been looking for a shorter cable for my katana to allow the cable to be routed around the front of the motor. I did a trawl of Wemoto & came up with these alternative cables that should all fit

Suzuki GSX 1100 EZ 82 Clutch
Outer: 129cm Inner: 139cm

Suzuki GSXR 750 L Slingshot (GR7AA/B/C/D) 90               Outer 122cm Inner  133.5cm

Suzuki GSXR 750 J (GR77A/GR77D) Slingshot 88
Outer  112cm Inner  123cm
Suzuki DR500 1981-1983
Outer  109.5 cm Inner 120.5 cm
Suzuki DR500 DR600 DR650
Outer 110.5cm Inner 120.5cm
Suzuki GZ125 Marauder 1998-2011
Outer  116cm Inner 128.5cm

Does it give info on the nature of the cable guide at the bars, e.g. straight, 90 degree? This is often the key difference between sub-models of the same model such as 'efe' variants and can have a major effect on how well a cable works on an individual bike.

Most of the ends at the bars seem to be a normal straight ferrule, the other end is 8mm threaded sleeve. The Wemoto site has photos of each cable

Finally found what the shorter Efe one is, it's a GS1000S cable 58200-49011

Ordered 2 off different sites, & despite the claim(s) one was same length (longer) as GS1000E but the other was spot on.

So i now have a new cable that fits perfectly, but the bastard is still heavy, just a little lighter than the old cable!
