Swiss Toni Posted July 4, 2019 Posted July 4, 2019 I had same problem with 750 Slabbie. I had to drop sump and remove oil pick-up pipe. Quote

Im half wondering if I managed to get mine out with the sump on in fact Quote
Duckndive Posted July 7, 2019 Posted July 7, 2019 There must be a knack to it as I cant see them putting in a part built motor on an assembly line " even back then" Where's Del when you need him ... 1 Quote
wsn03 Posted July 8, 2019 Posted July 8, 2019 Just found my old pictures - I too had to take the sump off, the pick up and the oil filter! Went in ok as I recall, albeit lifting the frame onto the engine. I was able to do it on my own. 1 Quote
robbo_64 Posted July 16, 2019 Posted July 16, 2019 Not necessary, I sold the motor out of my parts bike to Bill D a couple of months ago. Removed carbs and inlet rubbers, laid it on it's side on a tyre, my mrs. helped me but we manoeuvred it up and off with stripping anything off the engine. Patience is your friend Quote
Swiss Toni Posted July 16, 2019 Posted July 16, 2019 @DuckndiveYou may be right! I seem to remember, when Suzuki built the '85 Slabbie in a few days at the NEC. That guy Jason just hoiked the motor in from the right side of the frame. Someone was on the left side to take some of the weight. But, I can't remember if the engine was complete, or sump off. Long time since I've seen it! Quote

Like someone said above, surely they didn't fit a part assembled engine into the frame then fit the sump and oil filter on the production line? Quote
canamant Posted July 18, 2019 Posted July 18, 2019 I've done a good few slabby 750s andalways did them intact Even done by myself in younger days. I do remember removing all the engine plates etc but never had to remove sump or head cover. Quote
Racer-X Posted July 19, 2019 Posted July 19, 2019 I always lay the frame and engine on its side and lift the frame off the engine, engine complete. Be very careful with regards the lower rear cast frame mounts. Quote
Racer-X Posted July 19, 2019 Posted July 19, 2019 Same thing with the 1100 engine that's in mine, sump on but head cover off. 750 engine complete. Quote
p4ddy Posted August 30, 2019 Posted August 30, 2019 (edited) ?? Undo all retaining bolts, remove carbs, starter, alternator, complete cam cover, all necessary pipes etc then just lift the thing out with it on the side stand or paddock stand. That's how I've removed mine every time. Edited August 30, 2019 by p4ddy Quote
